Just thought some of you might like to know, that Turville Valley Stud ( who bred my mare Luchia) is holding a lecture/demo on Sunday 14th October. They are situated near Henley on Thames. Diane Thurman-Baker, will be demonstrating training horses from Novice to Advanced level, including lunging and in-hand work, and also showing the new discipline, Working Equitation which is catching on fast.

This will be well worth going to, as Diane is a beautiful rider and they have some stunning horses. She is probably the most talented Classical horse trainer in the UK too- wish I could make it, but my yard manager is on holiday that week and so I have to hold the fort.

Tickets are £10 in advance and £12 on the day. It is outdoors but there will be limited under cover seating.

Why don't we try and have a 'Southern central group' meet up there? I have been thinking that getting a few of us from round here to meet up could be fun, and this looks like a very good place to do so.

Henley is not at all far from me either, like about 8 mins drive so i am very tempted to come too.

Who else is interested in going to the demo? It is a real shame that Heather can't make it, but maybe you'll be able to make it to the next southern central group meeting.

bye!

Hi

Did anyone make it in the end to Turville? What did you think of it?

Where was everyone???

I was there with pictures as promised and unless anyone was too shy to say hello, the only other New Rider was Sandra!

I'm totally biased as I am A total convert to the "Turville way" but they put on a very informative lecture demo about classical training of horses and riders from starting young horses to stallions at advanced / Prix St George level. There were displays to music by 6 stallions ( eat your heart out Spanish Riding school)
Picasso - what a mover!
Lauren Fois aged 11 solo display on Brejeiro, Joanne and Sophie on their little ponies,a lovely Morgan gelding, 3 Welsh cobs showing that you don't need an expensive Iberian to do Spanish Walk and other classical moves!
(Sandra we expect to see you this time next year with your Welshie putting to great use all you learnt and performing your heart out!!!!)
The gorgeous Milreis, Don Diego and everyone else I haven't mentioned - Sorry!
Sherene and Leah came along from Sussex Lusitanos with the Working Equitation display and all the girls showed us how it's done.

The weather held out despite a dull start and for an on the door price of £12 you had nearly five hours of top class riding and down to earth advice!

You all missed a wonderful day!

The day was, as Larri says, truly brilliant. In fact it was the very best I have ever attended. The demonstrations were brilliant and the explanations that went with them were second to none. The demo by little Lauren Fois involved here riding their oldest stallion - and the pair were an absolute joy to watch. To be honest it did me a lot of good to see this, and the demo on the cobs. The Section D was ridden by his owner you see and she did so well even though the gelding sometimes performed "true to type" as my Kerry does at times. So all in all I was inspired and learned a great deal. Larri - I'm sure Kerry can already do a lot of this because of how she's been taught at Checkendon. What needs to happen is for me to be able to work with her at that level.

It was lovely to meet you. Anyone who would still like to form a Central South group please reply. Larri and I are still keen to get this thing off the ground.

Hi all potential members. I'll be contacting Larri and we'll organise a few possible dates with venue for all who are interested. Will post a new thread at the weekend (too busy until then).

M1TOO - if you phone Angela or Diane at Turville thay can tell you what plans they have for other lecture / demos.

I think the main reason that the displays are at Turville is the logistics of getting all the horses and riders to other locations!

I can't wait to meet some more of you - I do have some video of previous Turville demo's and I'm happy to bring that along.

Unfortunatly Im too far away to go to the demos or meet everyone, however I was wondering what "working equitation" is. can someone please tell me.
Thanks bunches

Hey I'm there in spirit(My entire family is British, Im the first to be born in Canada), I'd love to go maybe oneday but its so expensive.
At least watching Coronation Street for who knows how long has helped at least I can understand everyone, LOL ;)

Sorry off topic, if you could answer my question that would be great.

Sounds like we all missed a really good day- I would have loved to have gone, but my yard manager was on holiday and new working student Nicola, only just started.

I am dying to see Picasso- he sounds as if he is going to be quite something else. even though Diabo is such a hard act to follow.

Brought to England by the Lassiters (from Portugal I think). You can find out more by visiting the BHS site (British Horse Society). I'm sure if you post a new thread called classical equitation you'd get better feedback than I can given you.

Sorry Sandra!

this is a european equine sport that was started to show the skills needed by horses that work in the field - control, speed, agility, and listening to the rider whilst faced with the kind of obstacles they would have to get over at work.
gates, live animals, bridges, jumps etc. they have to full pass over a pole, rein back along a right angled passage slalom, lance a ring on a fake bull, canter around barrels with flying changes!

The main team players are Portugal ( Ithink they have been European Champions 3 or more years now) France, Italy etc. Its growing in the UK now, but as there is already a similar type of thing in western riding It will probably stay in Europe. Its performed with the riders in their national dress.

If you visit sussex lusitanos web site they have a page on it and they along with balanced horse feeds have promoting it in the UK.

The horses have to perform a dressage test first then there is a style class where its about the horses finesse in getting around the course and finally they do it at speed - which is brilliant to watch.

Hope that's given you a little taste of it!

Heather he is gorgeous! he moves like a dream and the first time I saw him was 3 years ago - even then he had this amazing trot. I just sat and gawped at him!

Even though he is still really a big baby he literally oozes class and I think he will be such a star - just like his dad!

Why sorry? I don't think I gave out incorrect information or did I? It would be helpful to know.

Oh it was only that you posted classical equitation, not working equitation. I wasn't sure which one you were writing about!

I did actually start a working equitation thread on here a while ago - it's under the other disciplines section.
