One of the boarders here was having a surprise birthday party on Friday...in our grass arena. So our RI told her that her lesson would be in the upper arena, and I was invited to grab a lovely school horse (Sevigny is lame currently :( ) and come along. Well, when we got to the upper arena, the RI noticed that at the far end, you could see the party preparations below, so decided we would go on the cross country course! I haven't ridden cross country in like forever!

Anyway, we did it and it was a blast! The mare I rode was enjoying herself tremendously, and after the initial panic, so did I. She wanted to take to bigger jump options, but I insisted on the smaller. The hardest part was getting her to stop.

It was such fun, and the birthday lady was very surprised when we finally brought her to her party. :p

ETA: Sorry that know one seems very interested....for me this was a huge achievement. Oh well. I did it, and hopefully will go again soon.

Glad you had a great time, I love the thrill of going XC, especially when I'm on a horse I trust.
It must have been such a good feeling after a break from doing XC. Brakes are usefull when jumping bigger fences, so I don't blame you for insisting on the smaller options.
I trust the party was also a success.
you may have had more response if you had posted in the cafe area, or general.
Hope you keep the XC going.

Good on you. I have not done a XC course before - looks exciting and very scary!

Thanks for the kind words! :) The party was a huge success, too.

We've had a ton of rain lately, so have been unable to do much riding. I can't wait to try my own mare over the cc course. She's pretty excitable so I don't know when that will happen. I am not the bravest of riders!

Glad the party was a success too. It has been raining in England too. Glad to hear that you want to take your own mare XC, hope you have as much fun and enjoyment as you did before. I'm having to just do indoor show jumping and dressage now as it is winter here and the ground is far too boggy to go XC, but I can't wait until next year to start again.
