Hi just come back from oesteopath, did my back in emptying the dish washer of all things! Anyway, was an old injury and now and again get flare ups.. anyhow, the gentle rocking movement of the walk and canter actually free up the joints along your spine! Although I am not allowed to ride motocross anymore as this does the opposite!! The rising trot is not so good for my bad back but the walk and canter are! Mr. Max doesn't know it yet but we will be walking and cantering for the next few weeks :D Oh and mucking out is definately NOT good for bad backs! I have something called scoliosis (spelt wrong I think!) and chronic muscle strain down my back.

I'm another regular at the osteopath so I sympathise. I usually feel fine when I'm riding, it is all the other things you have to do which cause the problem, like hoofcare and trailer hitching. Now a personal groom would be handy....!

Yes i know what you mean about hoof care, my ned is a Clydesdale X and likes to lean his weight in your hands when you pick his hooves out
Was v pleased that the riding is good for freeing up my joints though :D

I found, when I was younger and suffered very badly, that regular horse riding was an excellent preventative of period pains. Probably the regular movement of the lower body.
