Hi
my horse had a touch of colic last night but is thankfully fine this morning. The attack passed after about an hour and i kept my eye on her to see that she was passing and eating. Now she's not going to be turned out today by the yard as their field is a bit of a mess and the weathers horrible so what i was wondering is am i allowed to do light exercise with her tonight? Or would i be better just letting her have a stretch loose round the school?

I took Harry to a show about 3weeks ago and he suddenly came down with collic. Luckily it had passed with an hour and by the time he was back at our yard he was back to his normal state thankfully. Its up to you really

Why not give her 24 hours off work for the timebeing, or just walk her around the school in hand playing some games, this will help her stretch herself out after being in all day.
I start to think how I may feel if I had had a gut ache, I would need 24 hours and off too much physical exercise for a day or so.

i would play it safe and give her the evening off. she's probably feeling a bit sorry for herself, and probably tired.
You could take her out in the sand-school, as said, and do some stretches, which might make her feel better :)

That's the way i saw it to be fair but one of the other girls said i could happily ride her (which i'm sure is matter of personal choice) but i was a bit unsure as i wouldn't really want to go jogging after a bout of gut ache either. I think i'll take her in the school (as long as there's no one in there) and let her have a bit of a tinker round and a roll.
Just glad she's feeling better, see how people feel now when their kids are ill :o In 1 1/2 years shes never been that ill *touching wood furiously* so was a little shocked when it started to happen. <-- soft touch

Having some considerable experience of colic in horses I would advise you not to ride for a day or two. Let your horse potter freely round in the school if she seems ok. Have you worked out what caused the colic? It is essential to do so even in very mild cases so as to avoid the same circumstances in future. All colic episodes should be treated seriously.

personally I would leave her till the weekend just to be sure she is fine - I lost one to colic so I would be ultra cautious
