I have an 8 month old colt whom Im still trying to figure out what breed(s) he is... we bought his mom bred from a low class auction, and since then have been trying to figure out what he is... we found out his dad was a 'red pinto about the size of that horse' meaning hes either chestnut or sorrel pinto[probably tobiano], and about 14.2hh. Tink's mom is a 12.3hh bay mare... pictured below
Tinky Racehorse
March 23, 2005 sorrel colt, born about 35", now about 11-11.3hh, and I string tested him at 13.1hh
Tink is, overall, a pain in the ***[stars my own]. He has always been very sure of himself and his abilities, meaning he could do anything and everything better than anyone. He's very competitive and high strung... he loves to race our runningbred Quarter Horse filly who whips his ***[stars my own] every time... that doesnt stop him though. He loves to show off his big trot, though he also has a slow, easier going trot.

When I first saw his picture... I was thinking that he sure does have a small dished face that is slim and flared nostrils.... possibly Arabian? You say you think some morgan, and they are closely related to Arabian... and there is Morabs. I think he has some Arabian or Morgan in him.

Something lightweight in there - TB or arab. He's just lovely:D
And guys , coming from Minnesota, he's highly unlike to be a welsh;) They're as rare over there as QH are over here;)

That's exactly what I was thinking. Here in the US, I rarely here of Welshs, much less Irish SH, Dutch Warmbloods, etc.
I'm also curious to know how tall he is now!?!

What a gorgeous boy, he just seems to be getting prettier with age in those pics! His mom is lovely too, especially in the later pics, she looks so shiny! He definitely looks like he's got something like Arab in him :) I seriously doubt he's got any welsh in him as they are SO rare over here in the states :)

Actually, purebred Welsh aren't hugely common in the US, but part Welsh is more common. Therefore he's reasonably likely to be part Welsh, as many ponies in the Midwest US have Welsh mixed into them - usually Section A or B. (A lot of hunter show ponies are Welsh crossed with small TB's plus a dash of Arab for example.) It is possible that the pony size comes from American Sheltand* or Shetland blood, but his dam looks more like some of the ponies I rode as a kid, which were mixed-breed ponies that were said to have Welsh in the mix. What's pretty unlikely though is that she's got Welsh C in her though, as the cob types are rare in the US. I agree that there's a Morganish look to her too, which would be a likely cross for someone breeding medium sized ponies - Morgans being shorter horses on average.
The colt looks like he might have some stock horse breeding in him - giving him that slightly more angular look than his dam. Stock type Pinto, or Foundation Quarter horse. (His sire was reported to be Pinto, making that likely)
*for the UK folks - in the US there are two kinds of pony called "Shetland". One is the fuzzy leg at each corner type of the real Shetland pony, called the Classic Shetland. The other is called the American Shetland, and it's a slender refined pony type, originally created by crossing Hackney ponies and similar with the original Shetland stock imported to the US. The american shetland was created as a fine harness show pony, and also is used as a child's show riding pony. A lot of small mixed breed ponies in the US look like they have American Shetland in them.

thank you! yes welsh's really are not that uncommon here, though the cob types are practically nonexistant! In the newest pictures hes 7 months old. Right now hes so hairy you cant even tell whether hes a horse or a bear. This is him a week or so ago... hes gotten so chubby...
