Hi, I'm just so excited 'cos yesterday I went out on an hour-and-a-half ride. Through the common and woodland - oh, it was brilliant! I even cantered for the first time, although it was so fast and I was pretty scared. And I could have sworn we galloped! Anyway, I just had to say something because I'm really proud of myself! :p :) ;) !

Congratulations ems! There is nothing quite like a good hack in nice countryside, especially with a good canter thrown in. Well done for staying on your first canter, especially as it was outside the school environment:)

Well done! I remember the feeling I had during my first (last and only!) hack - its second to nothing! Congrats on cantering, my first attempts were about staying on and not much else! Now you can sit back and wait for the next one!

Hello ems, its fun to ride in the Great outdoors, its so nice to do lots and lots of troting and cantering, well done.

I think most of us will always remember our 1st canter in the big outdoors, its a help when a lead rider can control the speed of the canter, so that things don't get too exciting,if you know what I mean:)
Some good advice is no overtaking when cantering in a group, as this can get some...{probably most} horses a bit worked up and they can get a little wayward too.
Best wishes from Fred

Thanks Fred!

Yes my instructor was at the front and her horse was going quite fast plus the lane was pretty narrow, so I couldn't really overtake. I remember bobbing a bit in the saddle but I'll get the hang of it. ;)

I think I'm riding tomorrow :D so yes! Another ride out in the countryside.... Bliss! Anyway thanks again, I just love sharing this with every1!

Ems :p ;) :) :D

Congratulations ems! I haven't cantered in years but last week I rode a real nice horse at a canter through a huge field, it was great!! Of course now we are getting Whickery and he hasn't really been ridden so it will be a while before it happens again, first we have to work on other things but that will be awesome too!! Can you tell I can't wait to get him home :)

good for the mind, body and soul of horse and rider. *sighs* i need to find a proper hacking spot...i haven't gone on a good hack in a while.... we're going to ireland as soon as my mom learns to canter on a riding vacation...... she started lessons in august just so she could go on the vacation..... she's all that's holding us up lol seeing how me and my sister have been riding a long time....

Thanks peeps for your replies. Yesterday I went on another cool hack (on a different horse) and cantering was so much better. It was so great because I went out on the ride with my friend ;) :D and we had great fun!
