Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew what the benefits of feeding Seaweed and Limestone Flour are?

We sell both in the saddlery I work in, both are quite popular but I don't really know what they do/don't do!

Can anyone enlighten me please? Ta

limestone flour is calcium, for bones. however, i believe there's debate about how easily absorbable the calcium is from limestone.

seaweed is good for the coat and colour.

You do have to be careful with supplementing with stuff like seaweed though as it contains iodine which acts on the thyroid.

Limestone flour has been used in conjunction with bran (because regular use of bran can cause a calcium deficiency) but, as mehitabel said, there's some debate about the limestone at the moment.

You will find the best source of calcium is called Dolomite (kenserite in the uk) as it dosent leach the system like the Di Calcium Phosphate does and it dosent solidify in the stomach like the limestone.

all the best
