im sure ive seen a saddle sling somewhere, but i cant seem to find it again.
after going through alot of trouble trying to get my webbers on the last hole, ive decided to leave them there, but i dont want my stirrups to dangle in the way or damage my saddle.
anyone seen a saddle sling or know anything that would do the job?
thanks
tasha

I think I saw something, yonks ago, that was a strip of material with pockets either end that you dropped the stirrups into. But it was for storage not for lunging. Have you thought about using the straps Equilibrium do ? They are meant to "train rider's legs" but you could use them to stop the stirrups flapping as well I would expect...

ive found this while looking for something else on the net.
this is sort of what i meant, but i dont know how well it would hold the stirrups away from your head when your tacking up, lol.

aahh ive seen it now. why not just use one of those clip rope attachments, that have a quick release clip on them? like the sprenger elastic ties, on here...

ive got 2 elastic trailer ties, but they are too long and too much metal work to damage the saddle.
im sure i could whip up something simialr myself, it not exactly a complex thing to make, lol.
do you think it would actually work?
my horse is 16.3, im 5ft5 and i have a broken collarbone so not too easy to lift things above my head, but i can do it.

i think a bit of baler twine would do just as good job!!!!

i could use baler twine, but it would look a bit tacky:p

or, you could just tie your stirrups up? as picured by Snip :p

this saves even more money, and metal work!!!:p:p

thing is, i have webbers on my saddle, i used to run them up, but now there on the last hole and hard to get back in, they used to slide down when put up anyway.
im going to be using this for tacking up at home and shows, she gets silkly when we go out and tends to whizz in circles, as im tacking up i dont really want a stirrup on my head or hitting her.

you mean dressage leathers? yes, a tedious problem I'm finding.

and you've reminded my, I have one of those multi coloured straps, I bought it years ago, was sold as amethod of carrying a saddle, it was to clip to the d rings; that would be perfect, (scurries off to find said strap) but haven't seen one for ages and mine won't be for sale when I find it, ;)

course the other problem is muddy stirrups against the nappa leather ... mmm.

yes, ive got the wintec pro leathers on my ansur. got the shorter length as its a jumping saddle and the standard leathers were fine on teh dressage saddle and i was on the top hole with my saddle, now ive got them on the longest hole:rolleyes: my hm stirrups have a wide bit at the top aswell so not easy to get teh tbar in the last hole.

re: dirty stirrups..

now if you then also had stirrups "pockets" with a D ring at the top, you could combine with the strap to get tied up "pocketed" stirrups...

Hmmm - maybe we should yell for Esther's sewing skills sometime around now ?

p.s. they do some really neat stuff :D

see strap that stops your stirrups flapping when you long-rein/ground drive !

And shorter reins for in-hand work...

but no UK distributor.... :(

:o oops - may have earned your eternal hate... followed the e-bay link, and purchased... hope you won't hate me forever !

Realised this may not be entirely moral/ethical as a NR-friend-thing, so went to press "back" but of course had gone too far :( because was on payment pages not purchase.

Arg - if its a problem say so and we'll sort sommat out...:o

its that e-bat trigger finger....:o

No Angel

Tried it at the weekend. I have my icelandic stirrups on a synthetic dressage saddle (with synthetic "leathers") and they tend to fall down, plus the orientation of the stirrups makes it harder to the classic "tuck the tail" thing with them.

So I figured this would be a good test for the sling.

Slight hitch is that these stirrups are quite chunky. The plastic clip on the sling isn't quite big enough to go around the "U" part of the stirrup. It did (just) clip on to the top loop of the stirrups - but it was a bit of a stretch.

So in hindsight I'd probably check the "chunkiness" of my stirrups vs the clip on the sling.

But other than that, it did what it said. And my mother commented (when she saw it) that they used something very similar at RDA as a grab strap for their riders (nice and bright so easy to see :) )

There is another one up on eBay from the same supplier.
