.. how much did your horse/pony cost. I don't want to be rude in any way, and please don't find this offencive. I am just trying to get a rough idea of horse costs. Also, what do you, 'get for your money', if you don't mind:)
Thanks:p

well fleur cost me £1850. she wasnt really schooled very well though. she was in a riding school but was very nervous, she didnt like being ridden by many different people. i went through 2 months of hell with her but now shes great. we compete in loads of different things and shes now "a good all rounder" lol. Star was £1500 but was a complete bargain because other horses of his ability were around £2800-£3200. he was 10 when i bought him and had done a bit of everything but specialised in dressage which was what I wanted and i also got a mountain of rugs with him aswell! he is definitely one of a kind!

Molly was £3000 I think, if I remember correctly. For this, I got a huge bolshy mare with few manners, but the heart of an angel! Oh, and 2 saddles, neither of which fit her, a couple of rugs ditto, and some travel boots.

But to me she is now worth £millions:D

Stumpy was £2000, bit expensive if you ask me. The guy also charged us £500 for rugs that didnt fit and were about 40 years old and rotting and tack that belonged in the bin:eek: The £500 extra was for bringing her a massive 60 miles to my yard:rolleyes:

For the actual £2000 I got a severly nappy horse who wouldn't allow a bridle anywhere near her and is as green as a sprout! She was also very obese, unfit and bolshy. Thank goodness we've come a long way since last october :)

Like Bexj I wouldn't change for the world now :D

Domino was $2000. He was 14, only trail ridden, gelded at 13 and has arthritis so he comes up lame sometimes. I mainly paid for his color(Black and white), although he is very sweet, has no bad habits, and is a perfect gentlemen. :D Montague was $2000, and again I mainly paid for his color(black and white). He is 2 1/2, has no training at all, and supposedly bolts. Although he has a great personality, and is very sweet(what else can you expect of a draft horse :D ) Tonka(my mini) was $800 and was a complete rip off. He's 1 1/2, has no training at all, and before I got him just sat in a field with about 10 other yearlings. Again, he has an awesome personality and is almost completely bombproof without training :D . I think most people can agree with me in saying that if I had to buy them again for any price, I would. :D

harvey was £250 from a horse market. this pony was 12.2hh show pony type, has evented for national teams and been down to do prince philip cup.

pride was £850 again from a market. 14hh superstar show pony, with the foulest temper on earth, took a couple of years before he stopped biteing and kicking people.

rian cost £800 for a purebred arab with some of the best bloodlines in britain but we have struggled with back problems since we bought him.

stan cost £1400, for a 14hh purebred connemara with a show record as long as your arm and schooled to medium level dressage. however he was advertised at £6500, but we signed a contract saying we would not sell him on ever and if anything happened and we could no longer keep him then he was to go back to his previous owner

Spike cost me £3300 but he is a schoolmaster when it comes to dressage and has competed affiliated in all three disciplines having won money at showjumping and got eventing and dressage points. He is a fantastic horse and well worth every penny. Win is not mine although I do care for him but he was bred by my friend.

Harvey cost me £4000 including an extensive wardrobe of ruggies and his bridle. I paid £500 extra for his saddle and he is worth every penny. I tried to sell him earlier in the year for £7500 and had several offers around that mark.

I paid £6000 for Luke but he came with absolutley nothing. He weaves, luckily, or I would never have been able to afford him. I have seen a few cobs of his level for sale at £8500 +.

So there you go! And it's not rude to ask!

Pink (although not mine) cost £1800. She'd had almost no schooling, but was bomb-proof. She's now a perfect condience giver, well-schooled and enjoys jumping. Horses of her type (and size as a bigger cob) are going for about £4000.

Brodie cost his owner £650, and wasn't worth a tenth of that. He was straight of the trotting track and had no re-schooling, and turned out to be a bulshy, bullying monster. 8yrs later (at 15yrs) he's still very unschooled, but a sweety and calm and sensible, but unfortunatly has some serious ingrained phobias. He was sold in the summer for £800. We made it completely clear what he can and has been like and the owner seemed happy with it. Unfortunantly she fell off him recently (her fault, not his) and has almost ignored him since, God knows what's going to happen to him now. I'll probably end up with him again  (secret:D )

gobby his breeding can be found here
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/centurian

he is gorgeouse and when i get back to edinburgh i'll scan in some new photos of him as my scanner is up there and im in north wales. unfortunately when at the home before us he was jumped and had an accident damageing his back, we sorted it out then a dog chased him over a fence (from when we can tell he flipped over it) and he did his back again, so we got him right again and then he had a trailer accident in september this year where he came out of a jockey door has completely destroyed his back, but getting him to the vets for xrays is proveing rather hard since he wont go anywhere near a trailer.

this is he, not one of his best pics but lovely all the same.

I know it's not much of a consolation or doesn't really hold any information but Percy [who i used to loan from the Rescue that i look after but don't loan anymore] was on average £35 a week. The standard cost was £20 but if anything had happened or it was farrier week we helped with the cost.

Phyzelda was £2000, and she'd been out of work and a broodmare for 1-2yrs.
Sam was £600, but i brought him of a friends that had had an accident and lot the use of one of her legs and she was scared of horses ever since the accident. But then 4weeks later he cost me £500 in vet bills!!

The lady went a bit doo lally and went bankrupt and so sold him out of desparartion. He was a complete mess when I got him ie skinand bones but he is a babe now and I think I got a total bargin!!

Lily was a 14.1hh Welsh Cob mare, ex-school mistress (in other words she came from a riding school... apparently. Her old owner wasn't very good with horsey terms, but was well-known for making up stories) £1,700 with saddle and bridle. What we did get was a very calm but very thin plodding hack for £1,500, with saddle, bridle and bits and bobs, and a very old, leaky, too-small NZ rug.
We sold her at 15 years old (she was 10 when we bought her) as a fun hack who had done dressage, SJ, XC, PC and camp for £1500 with newly-fitted saddle, a bridle, and various rugs and things. She was by then, however, nervous of you getting on and making any noise or movement on top of her. Nine months on and she's fine with her new owner getting off by sitting side-saddle style and sliding off, and the owner's daughter and grand-daughters have started jumping Lily again, and they're really impressed!
I'm looking for a 15.3hh-16.2hh quiet 7-11 year old to dressage/ event with, and am looking at paying £6,000 for something decent, or £3,000 (my budget) if I get lucky!

I think I got a bargain in Cherry. She was £1250 including her tack (good quality bridle, gorgeous saddle £700 2 years ago with receipts to show that the fitter has been annually and checked fit and re-flocked as necessary), a Masta turnout rug, headcollar, leadrope and a..... HAYNET!! Oh, and a nameplate for her stable!! She is 15hh and 14 years old 110% bombproof and trustworthy (if a little food-led and bargey, but not in a horrible way, just doesn't know her own strength) She HATES other horses but is forgiven that as she is lovely with humans - trusts EVERYONE! She was a bargain as she injured her off-rear flexor tendon in March and is on a year's recovery walk & trot only. However she gallops round the field bucking with glee at the freedom and she canters over to me when I call her in and she is still completely sound. Vet who vetted her also treated her leg and is pretty convinced she will make a full recovery. So I took a chance but I am quietly hopeful. She is also a forward-going hack and not ploddy!

PS Edited to add - Chez is an IRISH COB!!!

Paid the equivalent of £2000 for a mare who I love more every day and continues to get even more brilliant than she already is.
She had been schooled to a good standard at some point but hadn't been worked in a long time due to temperament problems, one of which was bucking which has dissapeared after simple physio work.

Brilliant in every way, hacking, heavy traffic, loading, clipping, shoeing, catching (comes to call) but doesn't get on with other horses. Loves anything to do with jumping and rarely knocks poles.
Forward-going, sensitive and bold registered IDxTB with excellent bloodlines and gorgeous to boot.

There are so many good horses out there who are just overlooked:)

Foxy was free, has good schooling, is sensible, jumps everything. Even stays calm out hunting! He is 18 though, the riding school decided he was too old 2 years ago so give the horses away to good homes. I've had 2 horses from trent park now :)

I bought Bex in August for £950.00 with a headcollar, he will be 3 in April and had done nothing at all, buts thats what i wanted, hopefully he will make about 15.2 hh, I bought him for his temprement, he is like having a very intelligent puppy :D

Danny I bought about 2 weeks ago for £350.00 with made to measure english saddle, bridle and a rug, my friend bought him at the same time as I bought Bex, Danny had hurt his leg about a year ago but is now sound, my friends circumstances changed and she could no longer keep him, so I have just started very slowley bringing him back into work. he is 15.3hh and althought not papered is thought to be id x tb and a grade B showjumper to boot, :D

Cara was up for £2750 and I paid £2250 . For that I got a 4 year old 14.1 reg New Forest mare with a brand new bridle, new shoes, a tatty old rug and delivery to the Isle of Wight. I think she was good value for money as she has excellent breeding and despite a few teething problems is proving herself to be a real sweetheart.

Pinto was 2000euro including saddle (which is nasty), saddle pad and bridle (which was nastier than the saddle and full of spider nests:eek: ). Though unschooled, he is completely bombproof on the roads and out hacking.

I think he is worth lots more just for his temprement alone. You can do anything you want with him, and he never complains. :D

Not a penny LOL........I got her from a refuge and she came with saddle and bridle and she is covered with the refuge insurance so a pretty cheap way of getting a horse.

However, I spent loads of dosh on stable equipment (not even having a broom to my name LOL) and buying all the other horse-ware etc..........still, got it all now and am in 7th heaven.

Would definately adopt again one day if the right one came along.

I got Scoobie for £900 with stable rug and made to measure saddle (he's probably worth (and after seeing him I would have gladly paid)around £3000 but seller needed to get her heating in her box fixed)
Skittles we bought for £2500 from a riding school but to me he's worth his weight in gold (which would be a lot more than that:D )
and little Roo we got for 650 although she was advertised for 950

My boy was £1750 which I've been told was way too expensive. I think if the money for him had actually come out of my own pocket I may agree :p

But to me every penny I spend on him is worth it. He is a TBx 12 yr old who was very unfit and not very schooled when I got him he was terribly unbalanced. Unfortunately I haven't really done wonders with him schooling wise as my knowledge only stretches so far :( I bought him as a horse who would not jump something we still need to work on if he ever will. He's a bit loopy sometimes and has strange habits.

Bonnie was £1100, toby was about £2500, but cost us a little more as we were doing a part exchange with another horse and the dealer valued her at less than he claimed toby was worth  both came with absolutely nothing, not even a headcollar. and both were totally green. but i think i got a couple of bargins ;) because they were both babies, all the work we've done with them has added to thier value, not that i'd sell them ever :p

Lady was $1,850. I think I underpaid, she's a wonderful mare. She's a Quarter Horse.

Ace was $1,800. I love him, he has a heart of gold. But we're selling him (for that price). He's double registered as a Missouri Fox Trotter/Tennessee Walking Horse cross. He's also eligible for being a Spotted Saddle Horse.

Sorry, I'm not sure how much that would be in other currency.

I paid £120 for my Fell pony, she was 6months old and unhandled at the time. however i think 1998 was a slow year for horse sales as most prices were low and at the fell pony auction ponies of the same age were going for £50. ;)

She has decent lines Sired by Linnel Reynard, who in turn was sired by lunesdale lucky jim and her dam is linnel apple who's sire is linnel romany boy.

these days she is a true allrounder both ride and drive, her only fault is a fear of combine harvesters, but as luck has it we dont see them very oftern lol ;)
