Hi, fellow NewRiders!

When my husband and I got our first horse
a few years ago, we subscribed to just about
any horse-related magazine we could find.
We've now let most of the subscriptions
lapse and currently maintain subscriptions
only for the following publications:

--Western Horseman (nice "down-home" style
and lots of Western riding advice)
--Equus (good all-around advice and info
for English and Western disciplines)
--John Lyons' Your Perfect Horse (great
problem-solving advice)

I'm wondering if I'm missing any new
or revised publications. Do you have
any favorites? If so, why do you like
them?

PS--I also like the The Horse Interactive
Web site (http://www.thehorse.com) for
health-related information.

I have at one time or other recieved all the magazines you mentioned, and still get Equus. In addition to that I get Horse and Rider and Horse Illustrated. Horse Illustrated is definitely my favorite- they have articles on both english and western topics, and very informative training and vet advice columns. In addition, they have a bredd profile with a centerfold each month, and a section in the back for reader's photos. Horse and Rider concentrates solely on western, with good arcticles and some very interesting opinion columns. I also liked both Perfect Horse and Western Horseman, but could no longer afford to recieve that many magazines as well as two horses :)

I LOVE Horse Illustrated. It's the only magazine I get now.

It is Mostly English, but there is some western stuff.

i'm a big fan of "Practical Horseman", though i can't say i've been able to sample a great many others (have to drive 843595472 miles to get to a good tack shop where they have horsey magazines! grr!)

PH is great, though; they just did a special issue devoted to dressage... i learned quite a bit! it's great that they have articles concentrating both on basics and some more advanced stuff, making a good point that many more advanced riders tend to lose sight of some basic concepts.

it pretty much covers all the bases, in regards to rider training as well as equine health/fitness/etc. last month's issue even had an article on the design of a good working horse barn.

i should also mention that i'm in the US, and Practical Horseman is based here as well (i believe, anyway).
