So, reading the other's thread I understand what a roan is and have realised that Jamie isnt a roan as he has roaning on his head... but what is he! :p

This is his head ;) His legs, mane and tail are black.
Thanks, Jo

He looks like an iron grey to me. There are a number of different patterns in the process of greying, and some horses go grey in much more slowly than others. Greys in the early stages of greying have an all over salt and pepper mix of white and dark hairs. The head shows the white hairs first, and gets lighter in the pattern your guy's head has.

He looks like bay/dark bay going grey to me too. The early stages of greying can be remarkably similar in effect to roan, but the head will always show signs of greying if it's grey at work whereas if it's roan, there'll be no white hair on teh head (white markings aside).

An all body shot of him would probably help to determine his colour better. All grey horses are born a solid colour and grey out at varying rates. Some can be almost totally white by a few years old, it just depends on the horse. Very often the mane, tail and legs are the last thing to grey out.
He looks to me like a grey that is still greying out.

Thanks for the help so far :D
He has black legs, so could he be a grey? Oh, hes an odd one!
Heres a very blurry pic of his whole body, hopefully youll be able to see a bit clearer, although its not a very helpful photo!
