Deep litter beds - saves so much time and money and bedding.
Always use haynets - hay in bedding makes it all gunky and heavy, and so makes bedding costs more expensive.

always buy carrots or parsnips in bulk, in the sacks from the feed shop, than from the supermarket. Can't really save money on food, as its a necessity, and you should try and feed the good stuff me thinks. Buying in bulk though, can usually save money, or buying the bigger bags of stuff rather than the smaller ones saves money in the long run.

If feeding garlic, rather than buying the powder, chop a couple of cloves up, and add it to cod liver oil = garlic oil which is very expensive. Cod liver 653 3asts for ever, if you buy the big bottles fomr feed shops. Your horses coat will gleam, and it's joints will be better, along with it's circulation. Always good, and not too expensive either.

Could make haynets from bailing twine.
Put a layer of shavings underneath a straw bed, which soaks up the wee, and keeps the straw much fresher. One bag of shavings normally lasts me a month this way, and i probably save about a bale pf straw a week.

Rubber matting is supposed to help, which is expensive to start with but economical in the long run.

Train your horse to pooh and wee in one place. No idea how you would do this though :p

I heard that the way they train race horses to go on command is the trainer spends lots of time with the horse and each time he does go the trainer whistles so when the trainer whistles the horse thinks "oh I need to go".

Everybody at my yard just uses normal vegetable/sunflower oil in feeds instead of cod liver oil; it's a lot cheaper and their coats are really nice and shiny!

Is it o.k for the horse to use normal sunflower/vegetable oil instead of cod liver oil???? If so, sounds like a good idea to me.

Corn oil is best - if I couldn't use that I would use vegetable. Something in sunflower oil is (I think, I can't really remember) difficult for the horse to break down in its gut, and I'd never feed cod liver oil because horses are vegetarian!

phone a few businesses up and see whether you could go and get you own shaving from them. We used to go to a place that made kitchens and bag our own shavings up and take a trailer full for fee, you'll fine anywhere where they make things from wood will be more than happy for you to take away their shaving saves them from paying for someone to take it!!

Always worth a phone call!!
