My mare wouldn't eat her breakfast or any haylage this morning, its so not like her. Should i be worried, naturally i am a little although she seems fine in herself. She doesn't feel too warm to the touch, she's not showing signs of colic and she is pooing. I turned her out and watched her and for a while she just walked around and chased the other horses, which is unusual for her, she rolled and got up as normal and carried on walking around. I went back to check on her about half hour later and saw her walking around and did a little bit of grazing then just stood there. An hour later i checked her and she was dozing then began grazing, with that i went home.
Do you think she's just having an off day? She's had a break over xmas for about 4 weeks, she has been free-schooled three times recently and was ridden both weekend days, is it possible she could be a little more tired than usual also?
Thanks in advance.

The only thing that has changed is that one of the horses in her block has been moved to the other side and there is a new mare in his place. This happened at the end f last week. Other than that, nothing. As for the water, the stables have electronic waterers so its hard to tell how much she's drinking but she must've drunk some as her bed was normal, just a bit dirtier, she seems to have burried her poo's! Was thinking about putting a bucket of water in tonight to see if she drinks any extra.
She doesn't seem bothered about moving, when she was chasing the other horses she was trotting and cantering about and she's as alert as a button.

My little Roo is a bit like that today, eating a bit but generally standing around with her head down, seems ok in herself so am just going to observe her for now, after all they are entitled to their off days too

And how right that was too. I was so expecting the worst when i got there tonight and what was she doing? Happily grazing away leaving me wondering what all the fuss was about! Ate her tea like it was going out of fashion. Can't help wondering what was wrong with her though. Maybe she was tired, or having one of those days. Guess i'll probably never find out. If only they could talk.

sounds very similar to how shearer was the other day, he didnt want his food (which is VERY unlike him) and he wasnt bothered about eating his hay. he was fine again the next day though, so i think it was just the cold weather getting him down! hope she gets better soon.

Horses, horses, horses. Why do we have them?........ Oh yes, thats right, its cos we love 'em :D Even if they do scare the living daylights out of us making out they are ill, refusing food and blah blah blah. This morning i went to the farm, mixed up Tes's feed which she very happily gobbled down as normal and i found myself thinking, 'What was i worrying about again'!
Oh well, never mind, at least she's okay, i guess she was having one of those 'umph, do i have to' days!
