nikcy hurt himself yet again. it's a two inch cut from his heel upwards big enough to fit a few fingers in. it can't be stiched because there is to much movement there. So it has to be bandaged for 10 days!!! and changed every two days!! Then the vets out again to remove proud flesh. So no riding for about a month ahh.
The vet wrapped it yesterday and with nickys leg on the ground went around and around the foot and the leg. But it means that the bandage has the tendancy to ride up the leg as he moves exposing the cut.
How I bandage it is around and around the foot and the bottom of the foot, this keeps the bandage down. but of course as soon as the foot hits the ground the bottom gets ripped to pieces!! my only idea was wrapping the bandage in duct tape, but my dad said thats to extreme. we dont have a foot boot.
which is the best way or any suggestions?

duct tape is definitely the way to go with injuries like this. we use it for all sorts - abcesses etc.

there is a special boot you can buy for about £20 that is made for keeping bandages on! i dont remember what it is called but will try to find it on the internet for you. (been where you are except my lad used to take his teeth to the bandages as well)

i had a similar problem three years ago-took about 3 months to heal, the cut was quite bad, and situated from the bulb of the heel up and across for about 3 inches, you could fit your fist in, it was awful. i used duct tape to protect the bandage and like you bandaged the foot too to keep the bandage in place. i changed the dressing every day. i sloshed out the wound with saline water, then applied half lavender oil half tea tree oil (worked much better than oxytetracyclin(purple) spray), put a non adhesive dressing over it and bandaged it in place. then applied duct tape to keep the whole lot in place. good luck

I would use duct tape for the foot part but avoid bringing it too far up the bandage, I would have thought it would restrict air flow and possibly make healing a little slower.
You could also try NuGel or Intrasite, its a Hydrogel used after surgery on people instead of stitches, you just smear the gel on and it drys like rubber forming a protective, breathable skin like layer, its amazing stuff I have used it for various bad cuts that couldn't be stitched or bandaged, Including when Pheonix cut right the way along his top eye lid about 4mm away from the eye, you could put your finger in the length of it but there isn't even a scar there now.
Good Luck

Edit to add: you can buy Hydrogel in the chemists.
