if started riding my horse again and im wanting to get her fit. i rugged her up early to stop her getting hairy but it hasnt worked, she is sweatin greally badly now, just out walking and a bit of canter.
what would be the best clip for her, im not sure what shes like to clip but she was very nervous and silly when she heard the clippers come on. she sweats on her neck the worst, but also under her saddle and girth but that cant really be helped.
i was thinking a bib or neck and belly. what do you think?

If your horse is going to be a bit awkward to clip i would think about maybe starting with more walk and trot than canter for a couple of weeks. Winter coats will be shedding soon (providing it keeps getting warmer!) A good form of exercise for fittening up a horse is uphill walking if you have any hills. If you decide the clip is the best option i would go for taking out half of the neck and belly.

she sweats alot because she gets silly.
she has been walked out for about a month, then trotted a few times for 2 weeks, so only does about 30 seconds of controlled canter at the moment up a bit of an incline.
i didnt want to clip herbecause i didnt want her to get stressed, but i will do it slowly and see how she goes. she was perfect for the dentist when i thought she would be awful so she might suprise me.

Hopefully she will surprise you, horses are very good at that. It might help to have someone on hand to help you, if she gets too silly try twitching her. If that fails you may need a light sedative. Good luck if you decide to clip. I'm sure she'll just stand there leaving you wondering what all the fuss was about.

im not a fan of twitching or sedatives, if she doesnt let me do it,she doesnt let me do it, ill try again another time.

sometimes they act as though they are going to be silly about the clippers, and then once you start going they sattle. try giving her a haynet to occupy her and just take the bare min off so your not at it for too long.

I'm sure you are aware but clipping now could effect her summer coat :)
If you are not sure how she will behave try to start in the middle and work evenly out and up both sides, or else you can end up with one side done then they get fed up and won't let you near the other ;)
I also didn't clip this winter, normally do, and have found this week Bo is sweating alot more, I think it may be to do with it being so mild plus the hair as he wasn't so bad when it was cooler, I shall just take it easy for a couple of weeks, the milder it gets the more likely he is to start shedding sooner.

I think you can safely clip up till the end of jan can't you? I don't think it will interfere with the summer coat if you were to clip now :D

Splash has the uglisest clip EVER but it is minimal and functional - by virtue of the only clippers I could get my hands on sucked!

The front of his chest and between his font legs, the main shoulder muscle, a strip up the loin and a good sized strip up his haunches.

Basically by removing that hair, I have eliminated the worst of the sweaty spots and have reduced my cool out time in a BIG way. He doesn't seem to have an issue anywhere else I think by keeping those areas cool and dry the others stay that way also. It really is NOT pretty tho LOL he kinda looks like rats have been chewing at him ;)

just as an aside the BEST conditioning is troting troting and more troting :) We are working towards endurance next year I hope so have been following an endurance excercise routine :) It has worked wonders!

I would not clip after new year, thats what I was always taught, unless of course you are going to clip all year round.
