Please could I have an opinion on Readi Grass. I believe it is highly nutritious but wonder how it compares with chaff when it comes to sustenance.

I use redi grass alot either for hay replacement or as a chaff mixed with hard feed. It has lots of goodness, when hay is short or not good quality I will use it to replace some or all of the ration, also if a horse is struggling for weight then it does help. It will be much higher feed value than normal oat chaff but doesn't have any mollasses so should be good for any with sugar intolerances. Horses seem to really like it too, well mine go mad for it :)

Thank you so much Jessey. I wonder why more people don't use it instead of chaff - I'm on a big yard and only know of one person who does.
The most popular chaff on the yard seems to be Honey Chop which is oat straw and molasses and, as Pink's Lady rightly said on another thread, the molasses is largely there to make it more palatable; whereas readi grass, although freeze dried, seems to me to be the more natural choice for horses.

I agree, but honeychop/mollychop/mollgrass is very cheap where redi grass costs a bit more, but each bag has loads more in it and I thin its way better, saying that my chap is on a lightly mollassed chaff (ossi-chaff) as he just doesn't need the goodness as he is a right porker!! Our old boy get it though, to supplement his hay.

WELL TED LOVES READI GRASS---oops sorry---but it really kills my chest--starts my hayfever up something rotten
i manage alright with the molasses stuff-and he likes that too
haylage is ok but dry hay is bad for me too
straw doesna seem to bother me too much but when you get stalks pricking your skin i get nasty spots from them--remind me again why i love my horse?

i used to use readigrass with hard feed and it drove my 2 absolutely insane!! it has a much higher nutritional value than the sort of chaff i use (hi-fi lite) and hence isn't suited to all horses.

I love it, it smells great however I dont use it anymore as
A) It sends Lily hyper from protein overdose
&
B) It also made her and a couple of others on it cough

we use it for all of ours.
for pride and harvey as a hay replacement because they have no teeth
for stan because molasses sends him loopy
and for rian cos he is a fussy feeder and it is one thing he will eat
