Well I went out to the barn tonight to do the 9pm hay/water feeding and night check to find by 5 year old standing in his stall shaking!!! At first I thought maybe it was colic, so I watch him and with in 1/2 hour he had passed pooh(he already had 4-5 piles in his stall) I though maybe in was HYPP, as it runs in his bloodlines, so I ran into the house to check his HYPP test results from when we had him tested(when he was born) And as I already knew, the paper just told told me I was right, that he is N/N, so he doen't have it. So I ran back out to the barn, check on him again he eatting and drinking. I thought about what the horses did today, well frezzing my but off, then it hit me! They where outside in -18/-19 degree celius for 2 hours today. So maybe he got a chill? But if he did, wouldn't I have seen him shanking when I brough him inside? So went back to the house to get his blanket(he is not blanked all the time because he WILL NOT leave one on!) I put it on him and within 1/2 hour he was not shanking half as much! I am going to go back out in another hour or hour and 1/2 to check on him, and the others.
So my question is what are the signs of a horse being cold? Or is this somting eals? Thank god I have the vet coming tomorrow for the yearly cheeck up!
