I wormed Captain on the 10th Jan with Equimax. However he has really got an itch thing going on since. To the extent that whilst I am grooming him he constantly insists on getting up against the saddle rack and vigourously itching his bottom. Now he is usually a sensitive boy and usually likes a tickle on his rump but I cannot get him to move away from the peg. I literally have to push him off and the minute I resume grooming he is at it again. Is this a sign that I may have to worm again. Next time I am going to use Equest. What do you think??

Bump. I read somewhere on here that a "geldings noise" may make him itch his bottom. What do you think. Any ideas??

Check that its not his tail he's trying to get itched - ticks love living in horse's tails and will make him very itchy.

BTW what the heck does 'bump' mean? I keep seeing this on some posts and have no idea what is meant :o

Oh its just a way of getting the thread back up to the first page so people can still see it and hopefully reply. Mine had gone onto second page and unfortunately no replies so wanted to bring it back to the first page again. Will I see the tick? I take it they are similar to those that dogs can get..

I would be looking to get an analysis done to check for worms, can't remember which ones it is that make them itch like that but speak with Gill, she will be able to advise you. It would definatly be worth going through his tail with a fine tooth comb to check there isn't anything else going on there and make sure under his dock is nice and clean, check around the tail head and mane for lice too, they can make them really itchy.

My mare is currently going through a spell of rubbing her tail - I think its a boredom thing with her though, as she's in a lot due to the winter. HOpe she doesn't keep doing it though - it will start to look a mess!
