At present I'm stuck in hospital & naturally am worrying myself silly over Salsa. My parents came to visit tonight & said he has a "strain" in his off-fore fetlock. He has had a strain & swelling in the near-fore fetlock as a result of pulling off his shoe & they have hosed and ice-packed this new strain as I had instructed them to if this happened.
Aparently my RI thinks this mild lameness is caused by him getting stiff when stabled overnight & then loosening up during turn out. He's a 7yo TB and is very prone to minor accidents. I also found out today that the £60 turn out socks I got him recently to protect his legs from these accidents often don't get used because the girl who turns out for us on my step-mums work days finds him 'difficult' to boot up. But thats a different whinge!
If he is getting stiff overnight, what can I do to make things easier for him until 24/7 turn out in April? I'd not heard of such a young horse suffering with this before, and in the four months I've had him, he's only been lame once through loosing a shoe. He is getting exercised while I'm out of commission, both by my RI and another owner on the yard.
Any & all advice appreciated!
