Alrighty, i have a 16.2hh TB mare who we are planning on breeding to again. She is bay with a star and snip with outstanding floaty gaits. We have tossed out the idea to breed her to a QH named Sky Blue Walker to produce Congress level horses, but we have also thought of breeding her to warmbloods, such as Don Principe(Donnerhall lines :D) and producing Dressage horses. Both studs are also around 16.2hh. I was just wondering if she would be better off being bred to Sky Blue Walker or Don Pricipe. Here are the links to each horse if you want to view them.

Sky Blue Walker: http://www.skybluewalker.com/

Don Principe: http://www.mfhanoverians.com/

If you know of anyothers that may be a good match for Kelley, please let me kno. Sorry i have no pics of her. She is 7yo and is being started, yes late. She is pretty skittish, but she tries hard when she is working.

I would breed to Don Principe, just because you would end up with a Dressage horse. Although neither of the websites have pictures that are good for actually seeing how the horses are built. If I were breeding though, I'd find a good draft stallion to breed to, but that's just me... :D

the second one...i was just looking through the offspring page for the first one, and they all seem to carry their heads fairly low (but I'm no expert!) don't know if thats just because they are on a loose rein though

The way I choose is pick a few sires for purpose then pick my mare apart for her faults then pick stallion apart for his faults and make sure that they compliment each others faults. I also try and look at progeny of stallion so I know if they through truer to him or her. My stallion tends to stamp the front end where the mares take care of the back end and improve his rear end alot lol.

good luck with your journey

They are supposed to. On the QH circuits, in the Hunt seat and english pleasure classes, its "the look". Normally, the lower, the better.:D

Correct, pleasure horses need a lower headset- pleasure needs looser reins, so lower heads.

I would definately stick with a warmblood, or even a coldblood (irish draught, shire, or clyde) to prodduce something valuable if you sell, or with undoubted conformation for showing. If your going to breed, breed well! ;)

I would only ever cross with qh if it were a western-breed of mare.

Personally i'd go for a warmblood, but i'm a Sjer so thats my sort of horse!!

tb x wb
or tb x irish sports horses

Both make good dressage/Showjumping horses with correct schooling etc.

If I were to breed from a TB mare I'd use one of the two stallions from Langeller Farm

www.langallerfarm.co.uk

For me it'd have to be No Submission or Weld, but I do like My Tbs!

For myself I'd probably use Shipton Teasel for a TB cross Connemara foal!

Then again I don't breed from my mares!

My BF likes Weld (he is a Welder/fabricator) the only thing for me is that at 16.3hh he'd probably throw big foals - hence the 15.2 No Submission. Again a Beautiful horse!

But at the minute if I were to breed a competition horse abd bearing in mind I am 5'2" I'd use Shipton Teasel or Stafford Twilight to try and get the smaller outcome - anything over 16hh dwarfs me!

I am really anti breeding from everyday mares (and my views often get me slagged off - same with pet dogs and cats) though so not for me at the moment
