I bought an Andalusian mare last Sept with no original papers or anything about her breeding etc. To be honest i didnt know alot of information about this particular breed before i bought her and was just getting back into riding after a 7yr break. But ive been told she could be worth quite alot more than i orginally paid for her (not that i will be selling her but its all was interesting to find out details about your horses past.) She has a branding mark on her neck but no micro-chip in her neck (i had the vets check her over but they couldnt find anything) i dont even know her Spanish name but ive been told she was definitly bought over from Spain they can apparently tell from the incorrect Serritta markings on her nose and her branding mark.
Does anyone have any ideas how i could trace this little mare back to see if shes in the Spanish Stud Book etc?
Cheers!:) :)

Try contacting the British Association for the Purebred Spanish Horse

BAPSH (www.bapsh.co.uk)

They may be able to tell you the breeder from the brand

I suspect that if she does not papers with her she is either a PRE that did not make the grade, or is Andalusian rather than PRE ie Spanish bred but not from registered parents. Even some partbred Spanish horses have papers, blue book registration I think.

I think the Spanish Stud book for the PRE has a list of brands on its website - can you trace the dealer she came from? I wonder if she came via Holland?
