Well sooo much has happened since now and the last time I updated, I shall try to just sum it up. Mear has learned to:
Stand quietly while being mounted
Stand quietly even when scary things are going on around her
Focus on me and continue her work even when horribly scary monsters are mooing at her
Respond to basic leg cues
Ignore getting kicked in the bum/side or being draped over with new riders
Mear needs work on:
Relaxing the leg when someone picks up her hind hooves
Stretching her topline when no one is actually on her back
Not pawing while eating
The last one was solved by giving her her hay first, I used to give her just a scoop of what ever "Goodie" was in the can so she'd have something in her belly when we went riding, with the result of her pawing impatiently at trying to swallow it all at once. The solution? Giving her hay first!
She's also a bit cinchy now but I believe that is pain induced [see my thread in health]
If anyone has any suggestions on helping her to relax with her hind legs (She is not bad mind you, just tense) and topline building exercises she can do with out the weight of the rider, I'd be happy to hear!
