I was looking at them on HQ earlier just out of interest, and there was only one under £3000, and that was £2750!!!

thus we have the reason stan is insured for £6000

Kanuma...just out of interest seen as you know your stuff when it comes to connies...does my boy look like a full connemara to you?
One page of his passport says connemara, the other states that he's a connemara cross, very confusing. He came with no papers so if he is one I guess he's of unknown breeding.
Just wanted an opinion.
He looks like one to me, not sure what he could be crossed with!

sparklie, i dont think he is pure, i do however believe he has an awful lot of connie in him (more then 75%). how tall is he?
your papers should tell you. if he is a connie he should have a green or blue (overheight) BCPS passport.
Sparklie
13th Feb 2006, 10:04 PM
He's 14.1hh
He didn't come with a connie passport...so he'd be unregistered if he was pure. I'd love to know his breeding, very frustrating not knowing.
Your Stan is beautiful...very classical looking too. Most of the connies you seem to see about now and much finer, I like him! :D

thanks, he is my angel, and he is a big big boy. when he is fit and looking well (those 2 photos that someone particularly likes) he weighs over 550kg he normaly sits around 600kg however. he also takes a girth 6inches bigger then my friends showcob. he is a big lad!!
Sparklie

lovely!
Twig doesn't exactly live up to his name...he's on the wide side. That's the way I like it though, I get on my friend's thoroughbred and wonder where his neck is and why there is a huge gap where his shoulder should be!!
You two do make a lovely partnership :)

i cant ride anything over about 15hh as i realy realy dont like it (tis a long way to fall). so wider natives are good for takeing up my leg!
ive had my 6ft brother on stan and he hasnt looked too big at all, and stan is only 14hh (when he stretches!)
i dont like haveing a massive length of neck infront of me and i realy dislike weedy necks(i feel that if you put to much pressure on the reins the neck will snap, give me a nice chunky neck anyday)! and narrow horses hurt when you have to sit to the trot, so i'll take my 14hh fat connie over any horse on the planet

Phoebe is Connemara x Irish Cob, her owner thinks! She's 14hh, and 17 this year. I know she's not full and I don't own her but I had to show her off! :D

he's still quite dappled...will get some photos in the summer with his summer coat. I've only had him for a few months but his old owner assures me that his summer coat is a light golden colour. He was quite dark gold before he was clipped...could still see some dapples though

My first pony (many years ago) was a Connemara. He was 14.2hh, a golden dun and the prettiest thing going. He was a sweetheart in his stable but get on his back and it was a different story. I think everyone that rode him fell off him. He had a vicious buck, napped and reared when I first had him and could put in the dirtiest stop before a jump. I sailed over more fences – without him – than I care to remember. He was also lazy! Despite being the most unsuitable first pony ever, I loved him dearly and kept him for two years. We parted company only when I had grown so tall that my feet would knock the poles off a fence on the rare occasions he chose to go over a jump. I met someone recently who had also owned a Connemara and it sounded remarkably similar to my own dear pony. Happy days!
