Poor boogie.. Saturday, we were doing walk trot for a while to warm up and figured I would ask for a canter (have to ask sometime 2-3 times easily anyway) and he wouldn up stumbling badly - pulling a muscle.

he went in the center and I felt something was wrong, he smacked his front hoof on the dirt and I hopped off. (I orginally thought he was thinking of rolling with me on him!) Then I saw that his back left leg was spasming and hurting him. We gave him some bute and stayed with him. The owners looked him over and felt there was no heat and narrowed the problem area to his stifle. He would pull his leg up into a kick and try to hold it there to relieve it so we knew it was when he stepped forward that it really hurt.

The owners assured me they would give him a few hours and walk him a few steps in the aisle to keep it from bunching up worse. And when I came back yesterday he was FAR far better, like I couldn't tell anything was wrong with that leg. I'm still going to just hand walk him a few days and see how it goes.

he had been trimmed a few days before and we wondered if that was not related? The ferrier did a conservative trim we felt. Any thoughts or experiences you've had with this sort of thing?
