This may be a long one -
I've just bought a 10 mth cob colt, i bought him two days ago. He's generally quiet but he's being really jumpy with me and playing up. Also he's jumping the fences, wooden and electric, which are about 3 foot. I've had to keep him stabled coz i'm worried about him getting to the road. He's kept on his own, no other horses around. I'm assuming he's missing his pals and a bit scared having moved but i really need some advice on stopping him jumping!!!
i'm not that happy about having to keep him in, i think he should be outside grazing especially being so young! Any advice how i can keep him in or amused in the stable appreciated!!!:)

I would have thought more horsey company would keep him occupied.
I could watch the foals playing at my yard all day long.
Where are you keeping him that has 3 foot high fences? (Don't have THAT much experience myself, but wherever I've been, I'm guessing the fences have been around 4½-5 foot high).
Good luck anyway and welcome to NR!

He's got to have some company, preferably around his own age, so that he learns how to be a horse. If you can't keep another horse at your place, then you need to seriously consider moving him to somewhere that can. Horses which don't have company at such an age don't have anyone to learn manners from, which can lead to respect and manners issues when he is a bit older. Please don't consider keeping him stabled as an option either.

I've got him stabled at my house, the electric fencing is 3' high the wooden is slighty higher!! I've ordered some fencing to make it higher!! :D
I think i'll have to invest in a buddy for him, i hate keeping him in!! He's also started playing up. He keeps moving away when i try to touch him and putting his ears back. God knows how i'm going to brush him. He's just being a bit naughty, probably bored!!:(
Whats parelli? I'd like to try that!!
Thanks for the welcome!!

Perhaps you could offer a nice retirement home to a companion horse who could keep your colt company and teach him some manners?

parelli it just a different type of natural horseman ship its working with charlie im affarid i dont know any sites for it i have a guy coming this morning. its kind of you apply pressure very gentil at first getting harder till the horse show a sign of reacting then release and repeat it. eventually the horse should do things with the slightest comand (i hope) its helped with teaching charlie to lift his feet which is something i ant done asap as i dont want to be battling a 16hh horse. hope you find a horse:)
