Things went ok today with RI visit to horsey.

Positives

Good temprement

He performed well in trot, struck off on the correct canter lead every time,

Jumped well....

See below.......

Great to hack.

Negatives.

No leg yield yet.

Has problems with bend and turning in general.

When you put the leg on for inside bend he just goes faster and you have to kind of trail his head around to encourage him to go left or right!

How long do you think it will take to teach him this?

Going ahead with the vetting anyway as the negatives are pretty minor compared to some horses problems.:D :D

He looks very nice!

Don;t forget he is very young. He seems to jump that little jump very calmly doesn't he?

I like him. Lots of schooling and fun rides and you will be fine together. Was it you riding?

Thx.

No. Not me riding, I was doing the filming.

The rider is the girl who has been schooling him for the past few weeks.

He was very calm about that... thats good to see. He's lovely, good luck with the vetting...
I can see what you mean about the schooling, but you have lots of back up with that.

(whispers)

maybe third time lucky...

Another postitive is that he tried so hard - the school was a swimming pool and the places that did not have pools of water were like a quagmire.

He tried his heart out for an hour in it this morning.:)

Some of the RS horses I ride would not have put up with that.

he looks a very genuine youngster. He seems eager to please and the bending and lateral work will come later. I'm sure once he is more balanced things will improve. The bending is probably due to the fact he is young, unbalanced and still learning how to move with his rider. It should improve in time. The second clip doesn't seem to be working by the way.

still not working.Don't know much about how the links work but I notice that 2 digits appear to be missing which I assume should be numbers.Maybe thats why.

The second clip wont work because the swear word checker is changing part of the key to **. You will need to load it again and hopefully it will be given a key that wont be changed :o
From the first clip I wouldn't worry about his schooling. With correct riding he will soon come round. :D Looks a really nice chap.

He looks lovely! Good luck with the vetting on Monday:D

Another potential new New Rider horse... how exciting! And how many new horses have 'arrived' here recently? I thought this was a 'bad' time of year to buy, yet we all seem to be doing it anyway- just imagine how many there'll be come the spring:D ;)

This is a good time of year to buy. Lots of deals to be had ;)

Ohhh, he's lovely; Meg has a few 'issues' with behaving in the school - she's fine out hacking though, at best you may find his teeth are a bit on the sharp side and need rasping and he'll be perfect :D . Has he been in a one-to-one or is he a RS horse? Sorry, I've lost track :o

He certainly is a beauty though :p .

I agree wholeheartedly David, but most people who are looking to buy (particularly if it's a first horse) are advised AGAINST buying in the depths of winter, aren't they?

I distinctly remember being told 'wait for the spring, you might pay more but it's a much better time to get a new horse and bond with it...'

Spring came and went (twice I think!) before I found what I was looking for though:D

Hopefully it will work this time.

I heard that it was a good time to haggle for a horse in the winter as it is harder to sell them. However, they seem to be selling very well here in the SE.

The yard where I am viewing my boy has arrivals every week and half are gone by the following week.

I bargain is in the eye of the beholder :p :p

What am I on about?:o :o
