My next door neighbours have an Australian pony. The owners explained that if I wanted to ride her that it would be great because it can be difficult for them to ride her because she is so small and I happen to be really small too. I went over there and started grooming her and patting her. I started trusting her heaps, which is a big thing for me because I've had a bad experience with a stubborn pony knocking me over into an electric fence because I was patting his friend. The owners assured me that she was really good, well yeah she did have a good "nature" about her but because they hadn't ridden her in ages they didn't realise how bad she was when she WAS being ridden. I didn't have a saddle the right size so I went bareback she was so small I had no trouble mounting her but when I did at first she wouldn't go, and then after a while of me doing everything I possibly could she started doing a fast trot, with me a rider who hasn't been on a horse for about a year trying to lock me knees in aand hold on because I had no stirrups to rise with. The owners thought I was great, all they could see was their pony troting across the paddock, and were like yay you got her going! She slowed down and I sat there patting her whilst she was walking telling her she was a good girl when I realised what she was doing, running me into a brick fence. I need some advice on how to get her back in practise, I couldn't even lead her around because she kept trying to bite my hand. The owners want me to train her up and it is a great opportunaty for me, I've never been allowed to have my own, and they even want to put a gate in so I get get to her from my own paddock and take her through.
