Went hunting yesterday. Well attended meet, mixed age range. Weather dry but cold. However once we moved off onto Dartmoor proper, the weather gave off its best, bally cold and rain! You woud think that the young ons would stick with it and their elders and betters retire to the fire. Not a bit of it. By 16.00 there was one person left under 30 and she was with someone who was not. Are us older souls dafter or tougher than the youngsters?

Isn't it what you are used to that regulates your body? We older UK people grew up in homes or boarding schools with no central heating. There was coal rationing too. We slept with a window open even in winter. We wore proper winter clothes in winter - vests, bodices and thick stockings.
Contrast my grandchildren who romp about with next to no clothes on, playing "swimming" and "picnics" and the central heating set (I guess) at 70 degrees.

Yes kids are whimps! :D :D (wild generalisation I know) We did an own a pony day, over subscribed so had to split it into two groups, The first group got rained on, we were told that we must have the ponies caught and reasdy for the second group as the little darlings were not to get wet.

You should have seen us at the Sheriff's ride, moments into the warm up,the heavens opened by the bucket full, were all in smart hunt dress or show dress too!
Absolutely drenched! and we all managed the 20 miles route, all be the attedance was well down.
A Marshall said to me " well at least we only have genuine riders here today"
thinking about it though, there were 20 somethings riding, but out numbered by erm the old gits like me:p

Sorry folks, to knock this great "tough as old boots" theory. I am 48, and don't like riding in rain. I must admit I prefer a cuddle with Sennie, then croissants and coffee at home under those circumstances. Nice spring day though.. different kettle of fish.;)
He, on the other hand, should probably be owned by one of you. He's not bothered by weather. I guess it comes of being a born on the hill section d.:)

At my barn they are.:) The group our farrier calls "The Rough Riders" - those that go tearing through the mountains leaping logs in the driving rain and thinking they've had a good day:rolleyes: - are all over 50.
As a mere 45 year old myself, I'm not always allowed out with the "big girls.";)
