Hi, Im thinking about buying a cobx dales 8month old colt. His father is around 15hh Dales x and his mother is a 14.2 cob. He is around 12.2hh now I'd say at a guess. He is croup high and Im sure he has a lot of growing left in him, but people keep telling me he will prob only be 13hh, I will post a pic if I can. How big is he likely to get? I would be very happy if he made 14hh.

You can be sure if he's about 12.2 now at only 8 months, he's going to be bigger than 13hh when he's full grown. His mother is 14.2 and his father 15hh so he'll most likely end up somewhere between or around those heights.

There is a way to measure the legs to know how big they will get. It's not completely exact, but it's been pretty accurate for me. Here are two: Measure from the elbow to mid fetlock and then invert the measuring tape.
Measure from the knee to coronet. What you end up with should be the hands.

Thanks for that! I'm going to pick him up tomorrow (if he will go in the trailer!)

Natives mature slowly. Our cob stopped growing upwards at about 5, but has muscled up and weighted up - by that I mean not fat - just up to weight now and she is now 7. She may put on more muscle tone, but not so much over the next year.
Horses appear to grow croup high first and then withers catch up!!!
Good luck with the new boy have buckets loads of fun and enjoyment together.

My filly was 13'2 at 8 months and is now 16hh. She hit height at about 2 years and has now filled out age 4...
I would say your colt will be about 14'2 ish...
