Hi, i'm Katie, and i've recently inherited an adorable 8.7HH Shetland Pony. I try to ride her as often as possible (bareback) and I figure, being an adult, i'm in the right forum!

Hi Kirsten,
If you get the chance to ride a Shetland, TAKE IT!
They are wonderful little creatures. You feel so in touch with them because they are smaller than average!
Thanks for posting,

Hi, i'm Katie, and i've recently inherited an adorable 8.7HH Shetland Pony.
That makes her about 32-36 inches, a mini/midi by any other name, You must be a very, very small adult. Most adults I know who ride their Shetlands have standards at least!

Hi Wally,
Yeah I'm quite small. What do you mean by standards?
Thanks,
xKatiex

Hello and welcome to new rider!:) By *standards*, Wally means standard shetland ponies, as opposed to miniature shetland ponies. Minis are 34 inches and under, standards are 35 inches up to a maximum of 42 inches I believe? Would love to see pics of you and your mare, she sounds lovely:)

quite small? no offence to you but 12 stone isnt really quite small.wally means standards as in "standard shetlands" not miniature shetlands. (bigger shetlands) x:p

in another post, where she has a debate with wally;) , well she says shes 12 stone then she says in another post "barely over 10 stone" then when wally says its 2 more stone, she say "2 more stones nothing to a shetland, merely a bag of peat"
