Gosh thanks for the kind words guys - it hasn't quite sunk in.

Me and OH are quite thrilled and stunned at the same time.

Passed vetting with flying colours apart from a few issues.......

He has a few lumps and bumps around saddle area - probably from ill fitting saddles - because of that and having loads of filling out to do I am definately going to invest in a treeless for him.

He has evidence of a v.small splint on L foreleg - vet didnt feel it initially but had another feel after exercise in the school - still a swimming pool - and with wet legs he felt a small one.

He had a few lumps under his tummy - not sarcoids - not really sure what they were but something to note.

He said his temperement was ideal for first time owners and was glad we are getting help with him due to his greeness in the school.

He doesn't have an 'angle on his wotsit' - sorry can't remember the correct lingo - means that he is not quite yet 5 but probably rising five:cool:
- no wonder he is a bit green in the school, bless him.

We are not getting him until the 12th March :o :o

We are off to Andalucia on the 4th - 11th March so we didn't want to move him in and then head off for a week on him.

Thought it better to pay livery with current competition yard owner who will continue schooling him for us for 2 weeks.

Then from the 12th March we will be there with him and ready to go through the settling in period with him.

Glad you like his name - will put another post on about that.:D :D

Novice Nic - no no no - you obviously are not keeping up :p ;)

The Chestnut Irish thorouhbred was the one who was flighty and I wouldn't even Canter.

Chestnut above - no THanks

This one is so placid - he loves a cuddle and is like a dog the way he follows you around looking for a pat.

Very willing in the school but v.v.v. green.

The lovely Cooper

V. safe hack.

Am getting lots of help from RI with his training!!

Almost finished Perfect Manners - so that I can start the ground work on his second day - don't want to turn him into a naughty boy with my inexperience.

Whatenejit - Oh how wrong could I have been. My friend has a green cob. She is a very nervous rider after she fell off at speed. But her boy is a complete gentleman. He nevers spooks, never bolts and really looks after her. She has only made one mistake with him. She thought that he longed for a gallop on hacks. My friend only likes to walk and a v small trot for a confidence boost. So she let someone else take him out now and again for a good run. But now Fagan thinks he is making is Mummy happy by breaking into a trot and dancing. Anyway the moral of this story is never let all and sundry ride your boy. Never let them take him out for a gallop or canter if you are not ready to do the same with him. Keep him at the pace you want to be at and then you can grow together. Best wishes and good luck with him I will try and keep up with your posts but you may have to remind me..;)

Hairy Cob I am trying to keep upto date with yourself. First Prince then Dolly then Dolly is going home but I think the last thread is that you are keeping her? (

Now come along Nic, do TRY to keep up...

Whatanejit discounted (Sensibly) the nutty chestnut and has got a gorgeous, though green in the school coloured called Cooper, and and RI who is going to help... got that far?!;)

I had Prince on loan to boost my confidence (job done, cheers Princey!), then Dolly kind of 'fell into my lap'... had her on trial, over reacted somewhat to normal 'new environment antics', and said she was going back.

Took advice from NR, thought about it more sensibly, decided to go ahead with the vetting and buy her if she passed.

She failed (heart defect:rolleyes: ) but I bought her anyway, for a knock-down price... and as for Prince, he's still with me until the end of his loan period, cause I have the best YO's in the whole world;) and they decided he could stay free of charge and their au pair/foreign exchange student is riding him...

Think that's you just about up to date now, unless you've missed any of the other New Rider New Horse Owners 2006....?;) ;)

Just got the vetting certificate today.

Clean bill of health apart from a few 'nodules' under his belly and around his saddle area.

Vet thinks - ill fitting saddle could have caused problem around saddle area - not sure about under belly but pretty sure they are not the dreaded 'sarcoids'.

A bit scurfy around head and body - needs a bit of grooming, rug changing and generally looking after.

So pretty good really.

Hoping he has not got some weird skin condition:eek:

Will see him on Sunday as we are going to yard to hand over the dollars:eek:

Then off to Frogpool Manor's sale for rugs, headcollars etc.

Start paying livery for his keep and training as of next Monday for 2 weeks.

Won't be able to see him again until the 12th March

To be honest - we don't mind - we desperately need a holiday - busy busy work. Financial curve (downwards) with Cooper for first 6-9 months means there won't be any holidays for a while.

We also need to get used to the idea and time to get the saddle, bridle, headcollars, grooming kit, headcollar etc, etc etc!!!!

Nights will be getting brighter from 12th March - then clocks go forward, then Easter - yeahhhhhhhhh.

:D :D

Hairy Cob - Thank you for the update. I am trying to keep up but for some reason seem to lose track. I havent from LD for ages. Anyway I am thinking of imp and ld tomorrow morning as they both have lessons booked. So I am looking foward to the next updates.

Whatanejit - Good news about the vetting. Sounds like you have sussed all Copper's pros and cons. Handy that your RI is on hand for support. Vitally important when one gets a new horse... Dont leave home without one. RI's that is. They are worth there weight in gold...Have a good holiday.
