Hi! My 6 year old daughter has been riding for the last 6 months, so I decided to "sample" it too. My 1st lesson went well, I really enjoyed it and got praised from my RI. She gave me lots of info as to what inside/outside leg/hand are for, as well as parts of the body for maintaining balance etc. Tomorrow is my second lesson and I have butterflies, as I don't seem to remember a thing...
Are there any simple guides for remembering the theory side? Thanks.

Welcome and Congrat's for taking the plunge!! :D
I started riding alongside my 6 year old! :)
It'll soon come back to you! Your RI will remind you too. ;)
I read in one of Erin's magazines, you can 'practice' by pretend riding.. in your head, you know imagine your riding, turning the horse etc. sound mad now don't I!

Don't worry and don't get too stressed. I'm sure your instructer will recap over things.:)
That doesn't really answer the Q but I just wanted you to know you will have NR support all through your riding.:)

Just try to have fun! The theory isn't so important to memorize, having fun and getting the feel down is most important. (for example, just because you can memorize something doesn't mean your body will DO it on a living, moving horse. And sometimes you'll naturally get the feel of something without knowing the theory behind it)
There are lots of good books out there you can study outside of lessons and that will help some. Centered Riding is one that helped me out a lot when I was starting.

The theory only goes so far at this stage. Honestly, so much of progressing is motor learning, "feel," balance, reflex, and things that you can really only develop in the saddle.
