I had my ride today. Only a trail ride but hey it's better than nothing. This horse I was put on is one of the more "goey" type horses and as I can ride was put on him. We were going for a nice trot when he dicided hang it it would be MUCH nicer to have some pigroots in for good measure. This I didn't really mind and still made him trot. Then into canter we went and did it even worse!!! We FINALLY got a nice trot in at the end with only 1 pigroot! YAY! LOL.
Our second last bit was the worst. He was SUPPOSED to canter but went into a nice dance around bucking kinda thing and the instructor was suprised I stayed on!!! I felt GREAT!!! LOL.
Had to share!

I am sorry for posting this. I thought that maybe someone would have found interest but there's no replies so I will not post these in the future.
Sorry for the space.

Kristy,

You do not waste space as I think is great when the horse does something not expected at all and we manage to stay on. I have a similar experience last sunday, as riding in the arena, as the sand was hard underneath, the horse stlipped and went to the ground on the front legs, but i managed to stay on and it is a great buzz to see the face of the instructor when they say, I reckon that you already have balance!!

It does give you a lot of confidence and it is fun, always if the horse is not hurt of course, sometimes a bit of the unexpected can be fun.

What's a 'pigroot'?

yeah, i didn't really understand what you were trying to say about the "pigroots", either. :(

I was just totally confused by this sentence: "We were going for a nice trot when he dicided hang it it would be MUCH nicer to have some pigroots in for good measure."

sorry! :)

Kristy - I was puzzled by the pigroots too - thought at first it was something to eat (like pignuts) but it can't be that...is it something your horse does?? It's such a great word I want to know what it means so I can use it...
hope the riding is going well

I was being sarcastic about the pigroot thing that he decided it would be much nicer for him to add some in. It where your horse jumps on his front legs and kicks back. And feels SO weird. It is very testing when your going in canter. My horse did then over and over and it was hard just trying to stay on and try sit to this funny sort of canter jump thing! LOL.
Does this help?

I think I've rode a horse that does what you're talking about, if I'm picturing it correctly. This horse does it because he's uncomfortable on his right lead, and doesn't like it when you ask him to maintain the lead. He would rather counter-canter; my instructor has been working with him on this I think, and he's becoming much, much better about it. Is there any particular reason why your horse does it?

This horse was doing it to get out of being worked. He is only ridden by people who really know what they are doing so isn't taken out much because of it. He is a very nice horse to ride and has a nice canter once he actually does it. It's just getting past that stage. He hadn't been ridden that day I took him out at all..........
