I'm so pleased that I've worked out how to post, and do pictures, that I thought I'd post here. I'm Mary, and I got back into horses after over 30 years away - this board has been a huge inspiration, as I really hadn't considered that I could ride regularly again. Just the usual busy mum, people like me don't ride ideas. So thanks to you all,

But here I am, and together with my daughter (age 13) the proud owner of Solomon, all 16.2 of him. He's 12 years old, IDx, we've had him for a bit over 3 weeks, and I'm starting to believe that he doesn't have any huge flaws! We broke all the rules, he's the first horse we actually went to see and try, and we bought him. he just seemed right for us. (daughter is tall, and I'm no lightweight, so we were never going to end up with a pony!)

I'm showing another pic, just cos I can -

thanks again everyone

Welome to NR and to horse ownership...he's a lovely boy! :)

I came back into riding after a about a 20 year gap, and only a few trail rides in between. I've now had my mare for a bit over two years, and it's been wonderful. Best of luck to you and your daughter with your new horse!

Hello and welcome Maryb. :) Your horse sounds (and looks) lovely.:D Looking forward to hearing more about him. Where did you get him?

I also came back to riding after a long gap and bought a lovely coloured cob who I shared with my daughters who were a bit younger than yours then. We had fantastic times with him for 5 years. Sadly he had to be put down, and my daughters are at uni now, but I have owned a horse ever since, and am lucky enough to now have my lovely Seneca, who you may have read about on here. Adorable cheeky 15hh bay section d.:)

Hi Mary, Solomon looks lovely. I also had a break from horses for over 30 years and it felt like life had just begun when I got my first horse five years ago. I now have a 12 year old Section D called Misty (pictured). Looking forward to more piccies and updates!

Hi Mary and welcome. There are no "rules" when it comes to horse-buying and you clearly "clicked" with Solomon (who's absolutely gorgeous by the way) - we provide a good information and support network here ;) so post away and we'll read! There are lots of us who have had a long break from riding (that horsey "bug" can lay dormant for years before it rears up again - pardon the pun!) :D

Thanks everyone! I'm ridiculously proud of him -

Cazrider, yes we live in a beautiful area - Argyll on the west coast of Scotland - the water in the background is Loch Fyne. The picture was taken at the stables, 10 minutes from home. They do trail rides, beach gallops etc. No plans to do the beach gallop myself, daughter will though, she has done them before on other horses. Who knows though - maybe by the summer I'll be fitter and galloping along the beach with the rest! Solomon will love it.

I love his name, Mary, and I echo what Domane said- what beautiful scenery! I'm a fellow returnee-after-thirty-years, newbie horse owner, and learning lots from this board. Everyone here is so helpful and encouraging.
Looking forward to hearing more from you soon :)

Hey, you certainly got your head round the posting of pics way before I did; still have tussles with the process from time to time:rolleyes:

Ah, Little Dolphins, I just didn't post until I worked out the photo bit! I've been lurking for at least 1 year!

I rode Solomon today, hacked out for just over 1 hour, he was great. Just walking, as the ground is hard and slippy in places. We were with 2 others for part of the time, and he got a little twitchy after we left them. Really he was just asking could we go home now? but no problem when I said no..........
