View Full Version : Professional Negligence Insurers Vet coming tomorrow!! Feeling a bit low :(

For those of you who have been following Megan's story, small update.

The matter was referred to the vetting vet's professional negligence insurance company who have obtained a report from my vet and are sending a 3rd party vet to examine her via ultrasound tomorrow at noon.

The insurers vet sounded very nice, she said I could come and watch the ultrasound and that she would explain what was happening and what she found, if anything. She then said she wanted to invite my vet to attend if she had a professional interest in being there too.

She said she'd read my vet's report which was very comprehensive and said so far as that was concerned it sounded like a hole in the heart and it was a matter of ascertaining how serious it was and how it may impact on her performance. She also said it was extremely rare to discover a serious congenital heart defect at Megan's age (she's between 8-10 years old) as they generally manifested in some way, shape or form in earlier life; from that we can assume she's had her health ignored or somebody knew about it and got shot of her sharpish before a trail had been left.

I'm actually very nervous that things will be serious, I almost don't want to know :(

The insurers have asked me to outline the basis of my claim but I won't do that until I know the outcome of tomorrow's ultrasound and whether her health condition will impact on a future sale or her health/insurance.

I wasn't going to post this until tomorrow when I had an outcome but I could use a few cyber hugs from my horsey cyber friends if there are any going :(

Oh, Imp - I do hope all goes as well as possible. What is the best scenario here? Its all bad in some way I suppose. Obviously hope things aren't too serious for Megan, but at the same time if there is a definite problem the you want this 3rd party vet (coming out on a Sunday?!) to pick it up.
Keep us posted. Big pats and a polo to Megan.

please please try not to worry too much yet. As I said before we had heart ultra sounds and tests on audrey and it turned out to be nothing to worry about, in fact have got full insurance cover on her with no probs:D .

Good luck and loads of hugs

(((hugs))) Imp - I had been wondering where you were up to with this. The insurer's vet sounds really nice and as if everything will be transparent and made clear to you, and that's the basis of informed decision making - you can't move forward with this until you know. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and waiting for your update post. Good luck.

Imp, I must have missed your earlier posts:o , but I hope that things go well for both you and Megan. It's so easy to worry when our furry friends are found to be unwell or have something wrong (I spent almost a week in a total mess when I found out the seriousness of Salsa's abcess). Lots of hugs and good vibes coming your way. We'll be keeping fingers and hooves crossed for a good outcome. x

Good luck for tomorrow - do you think they print out pictures from the ultrasound like when you are expecting a baby???

Lots of love and hugs being sent from me and fellow heart patient Dolly:)

Lets hope that the outcome is such that she will give you years of pleasure with no issues from her heart at all, AND that the original vet has to compensate you with a whack of money that you can then spoil her with.

Thinking of you x

Best of luck for tomorrow. I can imagine how stressful this may be for you.
At my old yard, we used to keep a bottle of Port to unwind; a glass does wonders for the nerves.

Thanks for all the hugs and inspirational messages :D You're all great :p

Half of my reason for feeling I do/don't want to know the worst is that we're all bonding so much now, we love her so much :D

I took Megan into the sandschool this evening, had intended to ride but gave my eldest daughter, visiting from uni, an unscheduled lesson instead. It was her first ever lesson having only 'sat' on a horse for a half hour hack on holiday in Scotland last year before. Being a dancer she has a wonderful riding position, her muscles seem to go wherever she wants *spits*

I know how Megan hates beginners on her - from her time in RS - so told daughter not to use the reins but to steer with her upper body and obtain movement by tensing her calf muscles against Megan's body. She did really well but Megan is too well rehearsed in doing what she wants with beginners and went to stand with her head over the gate talking to my other (rider) daughter much to her amusement

I then walked around the school at varying walking speeds, depending on how deep the sand was and how fast I could go in wellies :D Megan trooped along behind me like a puppy, awww, what a good girl! My daughter felt confident at the end of the session that she'd like a little trot so I sped up my step and Megan trotted along behind me (had to stop before daughter bit her tongue off though :D ). It was a lovely moment, Megan thoroughly enjoyed it, her ears were pricked all the time and she wasn't mardy or bad tempered when we left the school having finished off with some in hand work with my other daughter :D

Bonding well and truly ongoing... :)

What is it about daughters, dammit??? :D My nearly-18yo non-rider daughter has come to stay with us this weekend, first time in a long while she has come on her own (boyf trouble - oops!) She too has "sat" on a horse approximately 4 times in her life. She walked round the school on Cherry who was very obliging. I insisted Laura gave her a very loose rein and Cherry still turned when asked and even managed a bouncy trot or two.... BUT all the while Cherry was working in the most amazing outline! I'm sure she doesn't do it for me (theory - so heavy she CAN'T physically round her back :D ???) How the hell did Laura manage that?

I tried to take some photos as proof but the sun was shining and I had to resort to using the viewfinder, which is clearly VERY offset to the lens...

....for your amusement and entertainment, here are two of my "best" efforts.....

The very best of luck for today, Imp.
It's so sad that this has blighted what should have been such a special time for you all - though you seem to be having special times despite it!!
I hope all goes well for you from now on. :)
