My mares get good quality grass/legume hay (no alfalfa & very low clover percentage), free choice mineral/vitamin block and just lately because they expect it now each morning: Purina's Roughage Chunks with a bit of beet pulp.
My mares are very easy keepers which is why they don't need concentrates but Roughage Chunk is a basic maintenance feed & I give them less than the minimum requirement. The only reason they are getting it now is because I had to give bute for 5 days & the mares continued to stand in their respective corners anticipating their "breakfast treat".
Anyhow, they are in perfect health.
Gotta add an edit: Ariel though, lately has been a bit stiffer in the hind legs so I'm looking at adding some glucosamine in her diet.

Currently Bo is getting Mobifor Plus which is a joint supplement.

According to some other people, all I feed are "supplements." I feed my big horses 1/4 cup ground Black oil sunflower seeds, 1/4 ground flax seed(linseed), and 1/4 vegetable oil once a day. My little ones get 2 tablespoons of each once a day. The are outside 24/7, and have access to grass hay 24/7 also. And their still fat!!

I used to have my boy on Garlic - veg oil and an everyday mineral.
Now I have stopped the garlic since reading on here that research says it is hard for them to digest and causes other problems.
Veg oil stopped - told to use sunflower as this can be digested more easily.
At the moment he is on
Every day viamin and mineral by carr and day
Cod Liver Oil - provides a valuable source of energy, and allows for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, general health and well being. Cod liver oil also helps maintains joint mobility, and to reduce dustiness in feeds, helping to eliminate respiratory problems.
Biotin -horses with skin, coat and in particular hoof problems
Dandelion - Recommended by Isobell Hogton (horse listener) when she came to see my boy. She said his liver wasn't to good and passing fluids was difficult and advised to use dandelion.
After reading up more I found the dandelion is 'storehouse of minerals especially iron, copper and potash. Copper being especially important as an activator of zinc in the body. Zinc being necessary for wound healing, fertility and white blood cell production. Dandelion also contains more vitamin A & C than most other vegetables and fruit.'
The dandelion leaves have been used to stimulate and cleanse the digestive system, the blood and the kidneys. The leaves have a proven reputation in relieving fluid retention whether due to heart oedema or an excess of sodium and therefore can help to relieve high blood pressure. The high iron content of both leaves and root helps to combat anaemia. The root is used as a liver remedy especially useful in relieving bilious disorders.
and last but not least Sunflower Oil - now stopped as help keep weight and good condition during harsh winter months.

Our cob suffered an attack of laminitis from toxins last year, and on advice, he now gets probiotics daily - which have done WONDERS, I was really surprised at the difference it made in him, and the quick recovery he had. We've kept him on them, because it really keeps him in good nick. We've also fed a laminitis supplement to help blood supply to the feet, it was a 60 day course, which has just finished recently. Other than that, we don't feed any other supplements, they get fed Spillers Herbal Mix, and Safe & Sound Chaff. And warm bran mash.

Cherry is on 5*Superflex. Stopped giving her garlic due to previous posts and the fact that she didn't appear to like it anyway, even in tiny doses so it wasn't worth the hassle.

Skye's got Auto Immune Disease, so he gets quite a lot of supplements.
Right now, he's on kelp meal, echinacea, cider vinegar, garlic powder, fenugreek sprouts, marshmallow(the herb), Show-Off oil and Farrier's Formula.
Raglan just gets a bit of kelp meal, garlic and cider vinegar - he's an easy-keeper.
Some are to improve his coat/skin/hooves, and some help with the immune system functions. Fenugreek sprouts are an appetite stimulant to help him get it all down! :D They get salt from a huge chunk of natural rock salt(looks like an enormous 7kg crystal sitting in the paddock - pretty colour! and it doesn't melt in the rain)
Yes, Skye is totally molly-coddled ... He's very accustomed to the taste of them and they are making a huge difference to his appearnce and energy though:)

Hi Swerve,
I just wondered about your reason for supplementing with Echinacea? because in humans they warn against people with autoimmune disorders taking it.
Just a heads up.... has your vet approved it? :)

Mine gets the following
Formula4Feet
Rosehips - meant to be good for hooves, he'll pick them out of hedges in the autumn
Nettle - meant to help skin & be a general tonic
Clivers - also meant to be good for the skin, he goes mad for new growth of these in spring & early summer
NAF Magic
D&H Sure Bio - this one is short term as he moved yard recently & is prone to stomach upsets. It seems to have worked cos I didn't get weeks of liquid sh1t!
Himalayan salt lick which he never touches.

It was given to me for him by the vet. I might mention that when the vet comes back to take Skye's next blood test in a few days. Thanks:D
