View Full Version : Got some confidence back today

I took a rather hard fall 2 weeks ago during a lesson where I was going over the same jump which we were increasing in height. I got the the 2' mark jumped it fine a few times and then landed rather ungraciously on my backside:o I went for a hack with some girls from the stables last Thursday and I admit that when we went into canter and my horse stumbled I completely lost my nerve and was nervous for the rest of the ride. It didnt help that she did a mid canter jump over an invisible object on the way back and I totally tensed up. It was like I was waiting to fall off and I was rather annoyed with myself when we got back.

So I have been mulling it over at work all weekend, and was a silly bag of nerves going for my lesson today and it didnt help that we used the outdoor school which is on a slope and rather uneven and I have never used it before and that my RI mentioned the words "jumping today" when there were at least 8 jumps set up in the outdoor and it made me feel worse when as I was getting on Bailey decided she was keen to get moving and I had to mount while she was moving forward (not good so far:o )

Anyhow, we did some trotting and cantering just to get me used to the ground and then we proceeded with taking the jumps one at a time, at this stage I was still tensing up a little for fear of falling and hurting my tender bottom a second time. Now both of the RI's at my RS are brilliant, but I had the lady who owns the place today and I'm a little intimidated by her as she is such an expert and so damn good so Im also worrying about making myself look an idiot in front of her, plus I am wearing my contact lenses for the first time today and my eyes were watery:( However I need not have worried. Bailey was in fine form today and when given the instruction to do a round of jumps in a particular order we whizzed round them and I didnt fall off once, in fact half way round I completely forgot my nerves and actually started to enjoy myself. By the time I had finished I was grinning like a cheshire cat and competely knackered:D

Totally pointless post, but I just wanted to share:D

Nice to hear you're better, and that you've had a lesson with "failure is not an option" Dawn :D, she's a terrific confidence booster with the additional bonus that all the horses are on best behaviour round her;)

it made me feel worse when as I was getting on Bailey decided she was keen to get moving and I had to mount while she was moving forward

That's a standard trick of hers, all I do is walk her round in a circle back to the mounting block tell her to stand and she grudgingly stands still:rolleyes:

I'll be back next week after a few weeks off while my own back sorted itself out and I can't wait:)

Hey Vince

Hope your back is ok :)

She has done the walking off thing before, but she usually does it before I'm swinging my leg over not during - Im laughing about it now though cause I must have looked really silly yelling "STAND Bailey" while trying to get myself upright :D
