Apple cider vinegar is good for many age related ailments, google it for all the info as there is loads.
My oldie (30+) gets spillers senior conditioning mix, speedy beet and garlic occasionally he gets apple cider vinegar if he is having a real low spot or is very stiff and a probiotic when he needs it, but he already has arthritis and cushings we are just managing it now (rather than trying to prevent it), he is retired.

I also have an old Pony with cushings Are you sure that the Spiller's feed is ok for cushings? Most of the feeds for oldies are full of sugar, usually in the form of mollasses.

I have been avoiding sugary feeds but he has lost so much weight I had to try something else to get some on him, it isn't as bad as some of the other senior feeds.
Phoenix hasn't had lammy yet, hopefully this won't induce his first attack, as soon as the grass starts to come through he will be put back onto his low sugar diet (But then he will be getting sugar from the grass any way!!), I just can't afford for him to loose any more weight at the moment.

Try giving more speedibeet. That's what I did. At the moment I am contemplating weight reduction:D

Unfortunatly my boy doesn't like particually soggy feed, too much speedy beet and he just kicks it round the stable and won't eat a thing  He acctually stopped eating for a month in the autum, the only way I could convince him to eat was to give less beet and more mix :(
