Can someone help me with my feed please? I have a 12 yr old TB here is what he gets
Hifi chaff
pasture mix (2 handfulls per day)
D&H balancer
garlic
herbal respiration supplement

The Ultimate Balancer contains:

High levels of bio-available chelated minerals for optimum perfomance.
Prebiotics to maximise digestive efficiency.
MSM for its soothing properties.
Mobility herbs to help maintain flexible joints.
Biotin at significantly elevated levels for improved hoof integrity.
Omega 3 & 6 for skin and coat condition.

The thing is I'm not sure if I should also be feeding a general purpose supplement on top of this. I want him to be getting as much goodness as possible but don't want to overload with supplements.

I like the idea of hedgerow herbs

A blend of herbs replacing herbs that may be lacking from the horse's natural pasture.

Ingredients: Nettle, Oregano, Mint, Thyme, Rosehips, Dandelion and Red Clover.

I prefer herbal stuff!!

Also I'm not keen on feeding a mix although I know he doesn't get much. Could I cut out the mix and replace with something like fibre cubes? I know horses benefit more from a high fibre diet. Do horses really need these mixes of cereals etc?

Hey Lauren :D Sounds to me like you are on the right track, most balancers provide all the vitamins and minerals needed (sounds like yours does but you could check with the manufacturer to make sure they don't recomend any extras) those hedge row herbs sound great (who makes them?) that sounds like a good blend that would give lots of goodness but would also add some variety and flavors and a good natural element to the diet, If like me you only add the mix for added 'flavor' then you may be able to use the herbs instead for that :D

Hi Jessey the hedgrow herbs are by dodson and horrell. The balancer has been wonderful his coat looks amazing and feels like silk. I do only add mix for flavour. I'm never sure why I just don't like feeding too much. Charlie was on 2 huge scoops a day when he came to me. For the work he was doing it wasn't really needed and I think it made him a bit mad!!
