Wheee, I'm so happy I just had to post to tell everyone!
Changed riding school, new instructor, I was the only one for the newbie group lesson so it ended up being no different from a private lesson. It went GREAT! She didn't talk down to me, she made me work hard but was encouraging the whole way, we were on the same wavelength as to what's difficult for me and what's not. We had good laughs because the pony sees her coming with the stick and would start walking away or refusing to stop.
And ... ... I did the rising trot! I wasn't perfect and was far from consistent but it doesn't matter because I finally managed it! I'm soooo happy!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Can't wait to go again!

Well done! Glad you found a riding school and instructor that you can really work with. That is really imporant if you are starting out.
Keep working on rising trot. Remember not to 'do' too much or rise too high. Let the horse help bump you up to rise and all you need to do is to land softly back into the saddle. It's not easy... took me 8 lessons to get it! :)

Now THAT sounds like it was a good move! :)
Really pleased your move paid off, and hope you continue to be as excited as I am when I finish a good lesson!
Someone once said to me (from here) to imagine a piece of rope attached to the top of my head, and someone is pulling it up - that way you sit up straighter... I still imagine this and it always helps! It'll help your rising trot too.. :p
Congrat's! ;)

Oh well done, it's so great when things start to go right! I'm not that far ahead of you and I remember rising trot seeming really difficult, and then, only a few lessons later, it felt like the most natural movement in the world. The nice thing about rising trot is that you can really feel when it's right - you don't need anyone to tell you! I found the articles on this website, about getting started (not the forum though of course that is mega helpful too!) really useful to get some theory to back up my practice, though you may not learn in the same way as I do.

Congratulations! Rising trot (we call it posting around here) is really akward, and you managed it at your 3rd lesson! It took me a long time to get it, but now it's like the only thing I can do well :) And it's awesome you have a great new riding school! You'll be galloping away into the sunset in no time! ;P
