I've heard its lovely there, my friend is on the waiting list for there :)
I look after a friends' horse up at Stubley Hollow. Used to loan ponies about six years ago, just getting back into the scene now. Looking for another loan horse if anyone knows anyone in the Sheffield area!!
Just in the process of sorting out some riding lessons, get my "riding legs" back!!
I've had Smeltings recommended to me ... Whats Cowley like?? Or can anyone recommend any other good riding schools in the area??

It is a lovely yard:)
Another riding school that's worth considering is Snowdon Farm which is between Coal Aston and Eckington. Like Smeltings I think it's pretty difficult to get booked in at peak times, but you never know.
I suppose an 11.3 exmoor cross would be too small for you? Definite weight carrier and terribly cute?:D

Im five foot 1 and eight stone twelve pounds .... possibly too small for me, but to be honest Im a "horses as pets to be adored" rider, so maybe a bit of happy hacking wont be out of the question
I tried Snowdon about 7 years ago - he told me I had terrible technique (I did - Im a riding school graduate and had got into terrible habits while loaning!!) but got into a sulk and went back to galloping through woods on my little pony!!
But Im older, and more humble now, and willing to learn to ride all over again :o

I tried to get in at Smeltings because it came highly recomended, but their waiting list is sooooo long.
I like Cowley, I find it a small (15 horses and ponies) and friendly school. And yes I do know Crunchie :) (but I am way too big to ride Crunchie  )

Possibly not out of the question at all, she's a lammy and needs working with the spring coming, PM me if you're at all interested and I'll fill you in.

I went to smeltings but i didnt like it much. I was on the waiting list for months and when i finally got a place, they put me in a low group and i found it very boring, repeating the same things over and over again and i also found that it was very strict and i didnt get to do any 'hands on' things. The beginning of the lesson you were given the pony and at the end it was aken away andso there was no chance to spend time with the ponies out f the saddle. This is one of the things I like best about Cowley, from day 1 you get to help groom your horse when you finish your lesson (and there are always helpers there to help thoes who have not groomed a horse before), and it didn't take me long to progess to spending most of Saturday there

You might want to give her a call ASAP, they were having someone come to look at her at the weekend! They are looking for someone to loan her, though, rather than just ride.
If you come up come and say 'hello' :D If I'm there mine is the steel grey mare on the top yard, usually to be found eating ... and eating ... and eating!
Here's a couple of pics:

(Not sure what's happening, the 'image' link has disappeared and even though I've added IMG tags the pics still aren't coming up :( ).

Heya
Bit late joining!
Im at Smeltings - I love the lessons there, but I only have private lessons and I have regular horses that I ride each week. I also get to school a couple as well as my own so dont really have the problem of the lessons being a too low level for me, or the horse disappearing at the end.
We've had our thoroughbred there for 10 yrs now, and my cob there for just over 6yrs.
Ive been riding there for about 15yrs now :)
Im hoping to take my cob to some equitation and dressage classes soon, and my mum is taking her TB for some veteran classes. Looking at going to the show behind the Sportsman pub, hopefully Stubley will organise something or Far Nova - otherwise we're off to Doncaster or to Nottingham with the lady whose horse I used to ride.
I am looking at doing a bit of riding in other places though soon, just for a different experience! So if any of you have / know of horses that want riding - Im doing my driving test soon

Before I start, no offence to yann - u might of had a different experience as 2 what i had.
I wouldn't ever recommend any1 to go there, when i went the riding instructor showed me up infront of the whole class!:o(and that's 1 thing you don't do to a child!) he didn't even group the lessons into grades or ages!
I really would recommend cowley riding school, it's the best 1 in the area.:D
