H i Everyone:rolleyes:
I have a pony called Basil, who has Lammy at the mo.:( He got it from hay we think, because that was all he has had different, since Oct. He has been on box rest for 5 weeks and he is betta, but although he is not in pain, his feet are still sore. He was trimmed 5 weeks ago, he has half a scoop of Happy Hoof in the morning and at night, 2-3 haynets a day. He is 12.2hh, welsh B,. In his feed he has also been having Liquid Devils Claw, Arnica, Rhus Tox and Cammomile. I have also started to give him Lamineze! The Vet told me to give him Dengi Hi Fi, but my feed merchant can't understand this as Happy Hoof is for Laminitics!!!!.
Anyone have any thoughts???

that is way too much hay!!!!! a recovering laminitic should only be fed 1% of their body weight in hay. with my welsh D that equated to 1/2 a haynet twice a day. Lamineze is NOT a miracle cure, my friends horse actually got laminitis whilst being fed on it.

Happy hoof is loaded with sugar (5%). it may have laminitis trust approval but i wouldn't touch the stuff with a barge pole. i feed my laminitic on hi-fi lite, a probiotic (vital for maintaining gut function and can help ward off an attack by preventing the gut malfunction that causes laminitis in the first place) and formula4feet, a well used and tried and tested supplement to get their feet back on track.

what meds is he on? has it not been suggested that you use frog supports if his feet are still sore? or even imprint shoes? make sure your farrier is a qualified remedial farrier with experience in dealing with laminitics.

Hi -fi lite is fine for laminitcs. Not the ordinary Hi-fi.

As I understand it the manufactures have to pay the Laminitis Trust to use their logo. It doesn't mean that other foods aren't suitable.
It is important not to let your pony get overweight.
If you have a problem with hay try soaking it to get some of the sugar out.
