After my 3 strides of canter last week... this week I managed a long side... 3 times on each rein :D aaaaaaaaaand not a swear word in sight either :p
Now I have to get the hang of balancing between not letting him get 'onward bound' and breaking back into trot before I ask.
PS... I remembered to say canter instead of galop!
PPS... I made a short post:eek: :p

I have decided that's a really good aim for my lesson this week, to canter down each side as you did. So far I have had it in my head that i want to canter one complete circuit of the school but I never get nearly there and end up downhearted. You have cheered me up!!! I thought everyone could at least get all the way round once except me!

believe me, when you've had as many falls as I have at canter, just doing minute bits feels great.
Hopefully it won't be long before I'm doing a full circuit too, but at the moment, turning a corner in canter is my next big hurdle ;)

Well done Casey! Taking it slowly and building up your confidence is definitely the way forward, but it sounds like you are coming on in leaps and bounds!:D

I didn't make it down even one side:( just 2 strides and then I stopped because I was on a different horse this week and was finding her a bit tricky and she keeps her head well down so I felt I was going to go through the windscreen! Never mind. I had quite a laugh with it all and the instructor finds it quite amusing that I am so scared and can't get it (I mean she does it in a nce way rather than getting frustrated with me). We are havng 2 lessons off the cantering and doing trotting without stirrup work to deepen my seat more (and that way, in the break, I'll beocme REALLY scared!!!) Please please let me know how you are getting on and when you do the corner, I did do one once, it was,nt as bad as I thought. MInd you it was about 5 lessons ago and I was better then!! I should be back on the lead rein by June!!!
