it basically means a cob, but is disctinct from the show cob, which is 15.1hh, and shown hogged and with clipped legs. i wouldn't call that pony a cob type - it has feather, but isn't really stocky enough.

these two are cob types.

I would call it a lightweight cob type because it has feather. If it didn't grow feather then I would not call it cob type.

to me, those horses are cobs, and the clipped and hogged type are show cobs.
so murf (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b242/madams_walk/murf1resized.jpg) would be classed as a cob type, and not a hw cob?

it is essentially the same thing - if you have two identical horses and one is 15.2 and the other is 15.1, the bigger one is 'cob type' because it can't be a 'show cob'. cob and cob type are exactly the same thing in terms of the horse's build, there is just the distinction as to whether it can show as a cob or not. it's not just on feather, either - a lot of natives have huge feathers and are not cob type - it's build and size.

arhhh.
well murf ( above in pic) could be hogged and clipped and be a show cob as he is 15.1.
the one we are going to see is 15 hands and advertised as a cob type.

My boy is a 'cob type', he is 15.3hh approx.

I also think people call horses cobs that don't really fall into any other category, bit of a catch all!

To me, a native fanatic (sp), a cob type is a welsh section C and other ponies/horses that have the same build as a section C.

In that picture murf looks just like my dexter!!! I would have always said dexter wouldnt fit in as a cob because he is a shire x but now i guess that he could.
