crosspoles or straight

which do u prefer? crosspoles or straight jumps. i prefer crosspoles because they are more welcoming to the horse.

I love jumping crosspoles. I also like it when the fence is a crosspole with an upright back bar. Lizzie just makes mincemeat of it and throws a lovely shape over the jump.

I think I prefer crosspoles as it makes my horse look at the jump more and she always jumps it bigger.

By the way my horse hates those style jumps. I think thats what they are called. They are usually very narrow and have a board with a painting on it of some sort. The last one she wouldn't go near had winnie the poohs head painted on it.

So you think that horses jump bigger over crosspoles? EEK! I always liked crosspoles because I thought horses wouldn't jump so big over them!! I have to explain here that I am a bit of a chicken and am scared of jumping, so the smaller the better as far as I'm concerned.....pathetic eh?! :o

i pref straights but we are always told to warm up at collage with cross poles, as it gets the horses to use the shoulders

i dont really have a preference... but i prefer big sraights to big crosses.

i may be completely insane but i love oxers and triples... you can really feel the power when your horse goes over them! but i must admit i like straight bars better because of a really juvenile reason... i had a bad experience a few years ago as a beginner jumping a crosspole (with the edges of the poles at the maximum hole) not quite at the center, so i jumped about 4' when i was used to jumping 1'! what a shock! good i didn't take a tumble then.. hehe. ;)

crosspoles are fun but i luv big straight poles especcially when im doin 4ft its kinda kewl when u fly ova them with ease!!!MY horse Tina makes them look so easy to doit's not funny....:)

Have to disagree- I personally hate crosspoles, I know they are good for getting the horse sharper with his forelegs, but I had a scare over a crosspole with a pony.

He was a nervous jumper, and over crosspoles he would always run out, because he was very scared he wouldn't fit through the "v" my current pony is perfectly sane about crosspoles but before now I have caught my leg on the side of big crosspoles and fallen off. So in general I prefer spreads!

any i love jumping hehe, but spreads can worry me cos sometimes my horse looks at them as if to say should i land in the middle!
how do cross pole make your horse sharper????
i thought they were the very easiest to jump, and made life easy for the horse, also cos straights sometimes don't have a ground line!!!!

I'm a big wimp but I do prefer straights to cross poles. It's more satisfying ot get to the other side!
