Well I was browsing through a "Your Horse" Magazine and saw this, in my opinion great, hat...

Its the Onyx Web Harness with a detachable peak by Dublin.

Anyone have any experiences with it?

I thought it was great because:
From £39.99
And standards EN1384: 1997, PAS 015: 1998 plus has a British kite mark.
Dublin: Onyx with Web Harness and Detachable Peak (http://www.dublinclothing.com/UK/range/Safety/OnyxWebHarn.asp)

Thanks,

Yep, I have that hat, and I hate it:rolleyes: I find they come in very strange sizes, I bought one that was far too small, so I swapped it for the size bigger, which is now too big. The air vents do not work (I have ridden out in terrential rain wearing this hat, and not a drop of water came through the air vents), it looks very bulky, and IMO it was not worth the £25 I payed for it in the sale.

Other people may feel differently, but this is my opinion.

ETA: My head does not stay cool and dry in it either

I've worn one once, and I found it very comfortable. It's got quite a nice design - not as posh as the Champion/GPA type ones, but for the price you can't really complain! I haven't fallen off in it, so don't really know about its protection, but it's definitely up to standard!

I ride in one and would definetly give it the thumbs up. It fits perfectly and is the only hat that has stopped me from having a sweaty head. It is also very light and looks nice.

I have that hat too, and its fine - infact I tried many on to get the right fit, and this was one of the few that suited. I've never been too hot in it, or draughty, and I like the fact you can wipe it clean. Would buy one again:D

My OH has this hat - he really likes the style and fit. It's very well made and comfortable.

I have not used one of these hats but i guess it works for some people and others not from what i have seen here

I haven't used one like that, but IMO its not a thing of great beauty. I have a Harry Hall hat in a similar style but with a soft feel top (suedy black or blue) with a silver stripe thingy down the front (I would be more specific bu me and hat are not in the same county) and vents like that one, but to be honest it looks a lot smarter, and was only an extra £10.
the only downside is that you can't remove the peak on mine, but then I can't imagine you'd ever use that one without the peak unless you put a silk on it, and then you loose all the ventilation!!

I'd say go to a shop and try one on and see how it feels.

When I got a riding hat in October my main criteria was that it should be BS-EN1384: 1997 and PAS 015: 1998, so I ended up with a Champion Ventair, which I find very good and comfortable, but I have since found quite a few people who think it is a bad riding hat (storys of friends of friends having problems with them when they fall off  )... So I hope the standards are as good as thay claim

:D Thanks everyone!

Well when the time comes for me needing a new hat I will bear it in mind but always look and try on others in my local tack shop.

Thank you!!:p
