well i have just got my new saddle (dressage) and the flap are obviusly longer than a gp i have put my stirrups down one hole already but i am still having a bit of trouble to actually touch my horse to move her on but if i lengthen my stirrups one more i tend to loose them would this get better after a lot of pratiece or should i just leave them where they are the bent pic i could find to show you as you can see i am short only 4ft.11:)

I don't really know enough to answer, but I can see your point, I think that would bother me a bit. I can see you wouldn't want to take your stirrups down much, but I would've thought one hole might just help.

If the mare you are on is 16.2, and from your size, you are very similar in matching to a friend of mine.
For whatever reason she acquired a 16.3 Thoroughbred.
She had been taught that the principal aid was the seat.
She was able to make these large horses do all that she asked, by primarily using the seat.
It was always a bit of a problem for me when I rode her horses, as they responded far more readily to the seat than the leg. Being a chap, we tend to use the legs more than the ladies.

Just something to think about.

Just re-read your post, and I can't help but think that your leg could be longer.
How much work with-out stirrups do you do?
Some excersises, (that doesn't look right), to get your leg further down the horse might help.

your horse is very handsome, whats her breeding?
i reckon you'll be able to lengthen the stirrups after a bit of practice, when you've got used to the new position that the saddle puts you in.

hi,
id say that your legs arnt too small but your horse is too big! its difficult because the saddle fits fine but your legs are a bit too high up near the saddle. i dissagree with thinking that you could lower your stirrups, whether its the picture but your stirrups seem to be the right size. as the saddle gets older the stirrups will stretch a little bit. try clentching up your nuckles then placing them up by the buckle which is at the top of the saddle and if the stirrup iron reaches your armpitt then your stirrups SHOULD fit.
but yes your pony is TOO big for you.

can I just say, although her horse is bigger than ideal, theres no way twinkle will sell her horse because her legs are a bit short on her new saddle. I think the best solution would be to try and train your legs down a bit longer, if that doesnt work and you keep losing your stirrups try working without stirrups, if it still doesnt work then

Congratulations on your new saddle, it looks very comfy:D and shiny:D :D
Your horse is lovely as well. When I first saw her I thought she was about 15hh though!:o

Your legs are not to short but your stirrup leathers are.
To put yourself in the appropriate position for that saddle you would need to drop your stirrups at least 2 and probably 3 holes then slide your bum more forward and bring your lower leg back. If you try to lengthen your stirrup without altering your position you will loose them.
