More specific, what it a Tom Thumb Snaffle with copper rollers? (noo the one with the big roller in the middle - the one that looks like a beaded necklace - silver, copper, silver copper) I just ordered one because that is what my instructer told me to order but I'm curious as to what the bit is, what makes it different from other bits and what type of horse personality usually uses one.

Also, is it OK to put this bit on an English bridle, along with the (western) chin strap?

Thanks!!

The Tom Thumb is a good training bit for young horses and is used as one of the starting bits when training a young horse to take the bit. It is also used in older horses to control any tendency to run away with you or to give you more control. It is a somewhat severe bit as bits go, but with light hands, it is a really good bit to use. The key here, is the use of light hands or you will give your horse a hard mouth. Yes, it can be used with an english bridle and must be used with a chin strap. Why did your instructor say to order this type of bit? Happy Trails!
