judging from the pic you have on your signiture i'd say it was just bay all horses have a few white hairs in them somewhere

roans dont have patches... they're whole body minus head and legs are a mixture of color and white...
he could be a pinto, but if the white is more of a roany patch then its probably nothing... many horses will develop them...

Roan is when the white hair is evenly mixed in with the solid colour all over the horse's body. Patches are caused by a different gene; usually tobiano in the UK, but also the overo patterns including splash and sabino.
