Hi! As some of you know I recently came off a bolting horse and broke my ankle so I am pretty immobile and will stay that way for a couple more months. After my initial mope and moan about not being able to ride I've decided to use all this spare time to watch riding videos. Does anyone have any suggestions for good general instructional videos that will help me improve my riding out of the saddle?

Many thanks, Em

Heather Moffett, of course!

Anything by Kalman de Jurenak, expensive but worth every penny.

The Jenny Loriston-Clarke series are good, they do a wide range of videos from the foal to advanced dressage moves. ( lots of nodding heads though in the more advanced vids, can irritate after a while!:D )

You may find The Classical Seat interesting I, II and III.

I'd say compare the Heather Vid and the Kalman de Jurenak vids with the others, there is a certain something about the way the riders on Heather's and Kalman's videos ride. The other video's riders lack a certain sparkle.

Sorry if you are one of those riders!

I quite like the 3 Mark Todd ones. Very practical and down to earth with no attempt to hide it when things go wrong! :)

I wasn't quite so keen on the Classical seat ones - she seems to contradict her books a little.

To make yourself feel a little better about your tumble - how about a thrills n' spills type video?

( so that like me next time you have a fall you can be really spectacular!:D )

Don't forget to try some chair bound exercises to keep the rest of you supple, thats the worst thing about a break ( no pun intended:rolleyes: ) from riding - everything stiffens up.

My name is Heather and I live in Bridgwater. I have been riding for 19 months now and do just about everything if not that well but am improving. I am 45 so I was a late starter. I do not own my own horse but use local stables for hacking etc. and would like to find someone to do this with and share our interest. My daughter also rides but as she works cannot go during the week. If interested please reply.
